Perhaps you were turning it off? Clicking on the buff and deactivating it? OR you were doing something to kick it off, battle or whatnot. Not sure but that is pretty gay. Sorry, but don't hate them, they do work, and they work quite well.

I think they might have just been patched, since you do actually spend money on them, as opposed to just leeching from a high level.

Potemken, I realize you have your experience, but you need to understand something. There are people on these forums who have been playing FFXI as long as you and they have their experiences as well. Trust me, if TGM says she had an oil and/or powder last a very short period of time it's true. Speaking from second knowledge with an old ls friend, they once used a Silent Oil > got 1 "sneak is wearing off" message and then Sneak was gone. Generally speaking I would say pots and oils last longer, but they have no gaurantee to last a certain period of time.

Thing is i thing the problem was with her experience, I've never heard of this problem before, and I been doing it for years. Is there a changelog for this game? Something that shows what was fixed or added or removed for each patch? I know dota and wow have them.

And dude, I understand her experience, and didn't say she was lying. I was simply trying to diagnose her problem. Asking questions isn't illegal is it? she could have been playing longer or shorter, i still would have asked. Its the way things work. You should never be afraid to ask questions. The length is random, but generally it is 4+. Perhaps she had a bad batch but she said stacks. 24+ oils or powders that lasted seconds only? There is a problem there.

Isn't the length of time those types of things last depend a bit on what day it is?

Sneak and Invisible are wind-based, so they are weaker on Iceday and in ice weather. Hence on LS chat I sometimes use the phrase "Someone's got a bad case of the Icedays."

The length of time is dependant on the magic skill level of the caster. Thats why low casters have low times.

No. If that was true, when somebody casts a Invisible or Sneak spell on 2 people, both spells would wear off at the same time. This does not happen and they wear off randomly. I specifically remember a time when I was getting Rank 4 in Delkfutt's tower when I got invisible casted on me by a 75 and it immediately started wearing off might've been 30 seconds.

They have always lasted for me 4+ mins, enough time to not wear off for a whole zone. I've bought stacks worth too, enough to actually learn alchemy and do my own.

I've did it with a variety of jobs, levels, areas, days, times, and YEARS. I ran to jeuno doing this maybe 3 years ago? And i did it for korrokla tunnel and altepea desert last week. Same effect.

Oils and powders are useless, they wear off immediately. First time I tried to get a lvl 1 to Jeuno I got them and thought it was a fluke but then someone in my ls decided to try it too so we both went together. (I died and hp'd.) Hell I'd see the "its wearing off" message before the "you gain the effect" message sometimes! LOL

But when TGM says this you suggest she did something to make that happen?

1) not, its simply an experience, just like hers, I didn;t say "trust me". Simply explaining my experience too.

Yes, it would be, we've had them claim and then immediately d/c afterwards.

Bah, that sounds wrong. By "we" I mean we've seen them claim.

Haha.... thats kind of mean and cheap, but considering opposition prolly does it, more power to it.

I hated trying to claim spook on my server. Japs have a faster conenct time, being closer to the actual square servers that house the games, were about 1 sec behind them, but you can't notice, becuase only a person lagging feels the lag, anyways no matter what anyone did, they would always claim spook first, regardless of method, they would tend to use a bolt, while I tried voke, but other people tried flash and the like, always, that bolt would beat our asses....

Yeah I edited my post, I don't mean us. We don't use the claim bots, we GM them fuck out of them though. Pretty obvious when you've got a level 12 WAR in DA what it's being used for, especially when it dies 2 seconds after claiming Faf.
