  • 2 Questions related to the game

I tried contacting FFXI supports, but the phone lines have been busy for the past 2 hours (used skype so it would dial every 60 seconds), and been in the "
Webchat support" for the past 3 hours, and still saying "The next available Agent will be with you in a moment.". I googled but to no avail, but should be really easy questions.

#1. I did the 30 days trial and stopped playing, had other stuff that had me occupied most of the time back then, now I wanna play. But I noticed that they make you pay the first of every month, so how does this work? I have found no explanation of what happens if you re-subscribe in the middle of the month. Will you be immediately billed for a month, and then rebilled for a month on the first? Since you probably all got experience with this, I am eager to know.

#2 I tend to play a game for a month, and then another game for month ,and switching back and forth like that. I heard that after 3 months, they wipe your characters. Do they calculate their months in 30 days or 28 days, that accumulates to 6 days if I guess it wrong and would lose my character by one week.

    That's pretty much all.

Whoever you heard that from is bullshitting you. My brother hasn't played for 2 years and managed to get his account back. But obviously, the longer you remain inactive, the higher chance that you won't be able to recover your character back.

By wiping, I mean they remove him from the actual server and place him on the back up server, at which point you have to call them to fix this, no interested. There have been records of people losing character merely 5 days after expiration, others have been kept over 2 years after expiration, it's randomly selected, as far as I was told.

That seems an awfully short period of time, but who knows. With SE, nothing is consistent. <.>

So what about answer to question #1? If I start again today, what happens?

According to various threads here, SE bills on the first of the month. If you reactivate, you won't be billed til next month, but you'll be billed for this month (a full month, not pro-rated, since it's not a new account) and next month at that time.

You'd be surprised how long they save character data. Year and a half in my case. I came back to the same server in about 1-2 days after reinstalling the game, (mostly due to patching/figuring out how to reactivate my chars). Once I knew what I was doing, it took less than an hour to get back into it.

Wow, so basically, I'll be paying for a full month when I only will be able to play half of it?

That's right. They only pro-rate partial months on new accounts for the partial month after your free 30 days expires. After that, everything is charged as a full month.

Well, they just lost a customer, unless I reactivate on the first of the month. THink they would charge me 2 months? After looking up and reading a lot, I have come to the conclusion that they are abusing waaay too much. First time I hear a MMO charging a month and not giving you a month, or forcing a payment date. But to go to the point where peopel had to buy the game if they didn't play for 3 months, that's exagerated. Bye bye FFXI.

EDIT: But I like FFXI >_<, gotta wait till the 2nd of next month, just to be sure.

They prorate your trial, so if you started your trial now, they will only charge you on the next month after your trial ends.

This is how I think it works, my trial was years ago:

If your trial ends before the end of august, you will be billed for the days after the trial until the 1st of September, so lets say your trial ends on August 28, you will be charged for days 29, 30 and 31 of August on September 1st, plus they will charge you for the whole of September if you decide to keep playing after August 31.
