  • Newb alert :)

    Hey guys

    Got the game from reading your posts, this game sounds like an awesome MMORPG, I have read the newb guides and it says you should try join a group around lvl 5, I should be level 5 by tonight my time +2 GMT

    Now, how do I go about finding a group?

    I am on Pandimonium at Bastok I think...

    Everyone Ive met are awesome casting cure etc to help me out awesome community of gamers

    My question is when Ive only seen 37+ players running around how do I join a group, surely Lvl 5 cant join a lvl 37 group

    I am playing as a monk as i was just planning on soloing till my other friend joins FFXI

    But thats in about a months time

    Any suggestions?

    I'd say level 10 earliest with getting a group.

    From Bastok go to S Gusta > N Gusta > K. Highlands > VD and put your seek party flag up there, or seek whilst soloing in the highlands still.

    A level 5 can join a level 37 group, but you'd get no EXP. Generally people PT within a 2 level difference, so like 10-12.

    GL with low level PTs, I don't know what it's like on pandy but on Sylph I had to solo THF to 36 so far because everyone seems to be sick of pting low.

      Ill try that

      Yeah I also expected to solo alot so choose Monk, 1st choice was WHM but after reading the forums i decided to go for monk

      At worst Ill have a month head start on my friend

      I hope I havent missed the train with this MMORPG its quiet old but looks very popular still

        Most people don't start partying that early unless they've already got friends. You can try, but don't be surprised if you don't find one.

        Generally, you want to keep all the members in a party within 2-3 levels. The XP everyone gets is based on the level of the highest member. So if you're level 5, and you're partied with someone level 6, and fight a mob that's Even Match to you, you won't get Even Match experience, because it's only a Decent Challenge to the other player. So no, partying with anyone that far above you won't do you a lick of good.

        To find a group, you set your search comment (optional, especially at level 5), and then put up your invite flag. Search comments are on the main menu under Search > Edit Comments. You don't really need to worry about those right now, because there isn't anything you could put in there that really makes a difference at such a low level.

        Then just type /inv and you'll see a green exclamation mark next to your name. This flags you as looking for a party, and people interested in making a party can find you. For example, if someone wanted a level 5-ish monk for their party they could type:
        /sea all 4-6 mnk inv

        ("all" meaning the whole server, 4-6 is acceptable level range, mnk is monk, inv means only those with their invite flag up.)

        Or you can do the same sort of thing to try and find others and start the party yourself. You can invite them from the search list once they're in the same region as you (such as Gustaberg, which includes both N. Gustaberg and S. Gustaberg along with Dangruf Wadi, Palborough Mines, etc.).

        If you can find some others around your level, more power to you. Most people don't actually start partying until level 10 or higher, usually at Valkurm Dunes.

        Realize that if your friend isn't joining for a month, by the time he gets here, you're going to be too high level to party with him right away. He'll either have to catch up solo, or you'll have to switch to another job to start from level 1.
        Ellipses on Fenrir
        There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

              Re: Newb alert

              I agree, I wouldnt even attempt to party with someone until ~lvl 10. you will just slow your progression down by ~2/3 . I'm On Diablose and there are plenty of ppl to party with at low levels except around 12am pst till ~4-5am pst. I level up till lvl 7 then I start to move further away from town to fight Quadav's and Sapplings. I leave lizards alone cause there frustrating with the petrafication move or Fireball. I try to finght decent challenges alot, but if you need money I would stick to alot of Easy prey. since you get dropable items to sell and your EXP/hour is higher. It might seem like it isnt but has you will learn the less you have to rest and the more ur fighting raises that exp number drasticly. Now I personaly dont but any armor or weapons till I get to lvl 7. After I get the Leather armor set and grab a new weapon from a NPC!! not the AH from Bastok Mines area. Then I head to Dangruf Wadi to fight in the first few open areas (Only for a change of pace on scenery). but ultamatly I head to North Gustaberg and fight there till I'm lvl 9 then I zone into Kon Highlands and fight Worms by the hill (but only at lvl 9 and if your just about any jobs except White mage) After u hit lvl 9 its safe to say put your party ligth on and you might hook up with a lvl 9 or 10 person and It will be down hill from there.

                  Hey, I actually cancelled account last week. got to lvl 12 I think Monk but was just too long to lvl up and I didnt have 2 or 3 hours a nite to try lvl up, so tried to do crafts which just confused me more

                  I was on Pandamonium there were a few low level monks running around.

                  I am in +2 Time zone and you?

                  I might just come back if I can find some teamies

                    Edit: Read the last post wrong. >_>;
                    Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
                    yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
                    Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
                    leaving no trace in the water.
