  • Do i need all the expanisons? (new player)

    Hey

Im planning on trying out Final fantasy XI again (last time i didnt manage to quit wow to play a new game)

I have the 2 first expansion packs, Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia

Will i get anything more at low lvls from the other expansion packs, like new classes/jobs/races and stuff like that?
If i do need the other 2 ill probaly buy the 2008 edition and get 1 free month but was hoping to not need to buy the game again.

Also just a tiny question to add here, i read that its alot of group play needed in this game but can you also lvl some solo?

Treasures of Aht Urhgan and Wings of the Goddess introduced 5 new jobs (3 and 2 respectively) that, like all the other additional jobs, are available at level 30 after you quest them. Although both areas contain monsters primarily aimed at a Lv.50+ player, WotG areas also have mobs fit for lower level players.

A handful of jobs can successfully solo for EXP (at a slower pace than partying, but they still can,) but due to the nature of the game (specifically, its sub job system,) the privilege of soloing effectively is earned - you'll have to level sub jobs that are fit for soloing.

Eventually you will need ToAU. Once you get around level 50 players make an almost total shift to Aht Urhgan camps. However I have been playing the game for a year and just now I reached level 50 for the first time. I tend to be a little slow when it comes to leveling.

While there is no need to have ToAU or WotG during the early levels, they are both nice additions to the game. More so for ToAU, however, since WotG is still pretty fresh and lacking a bit in content. The biggest reason to get either expansion (besides what I mentioned above) is new jobs.

ToAU Jobs: Blue Mage, Corsair, and Puppetmaster
      WotG Jobs: Dancer and Scholar

Not every job is capable of soloing effectively. Some jobs, such as Puppetmaster, have an easier time soloing later in the game. While soloing on jobs such as White Mage can be a very time consuming process. Generally party play is considered the fastest and most effective way to gain experience points, so it's the preferred method of play.

About group play last time i played i got told that it was pretty hard to find groups for stuff, is this false or can it be hard sometimes?
Im planning on trying something like redmage.

Finding a party can take a long time sometimes, depending on level, job, time of day, day of week, who else is on, special events that may be happening, whether you washed your hands, etc. etc. It's not uncommon to go for hours, sometimes days at a time, without finding a party. You just need to keep trying, and learn to do other things while you wait. Other people will say "make your own parties," which also works, assuming you can find enough people willing, ready, and able.

Okey thanks for the answer, i was at the store now and 2008 edition was pretty cheap so i got that one now

But fro grouping is it alot that you need to be like a full group or can you basicly do stuff with just you and a mate?

Depends on the stuff. For leveling, a duo can work pretty well. Maybe not as well as full parties (depends on the jobs, etc.), but enough that you can at least make progress.

For some quests and missions, you don't need anyone else. For other quests and missions, you'll need more, from just a friend or two up to a full party of six. Or even full alliance(s) (though that doesn't happen til much later).

No, you can pick your server now, no need for a World Pass.
