  • So my friends says

He is helping me level by power leveling me and kept saying I was being rude from lotting on items despite him saying I can have it all. So I asked how it was rude.
My understanding of playing FFXI for a year after its release was after a fight, people lot on crystals and ect or pass. And if you need an item, you ask if you can get it and roll on it along with who else needs it too.
But he was saying its rude and I will be kicked from parties if I lot on crystals and various things to sell.
I wasn't clear on what how he explained it but apparently it goes by the quater master system now and the group leader divides the loot out.
Please explain the ethics of distribution so I don't get kicked =(

In EXP PTs, lotting is generally considered something you don't do and you just let the drops fall where they may. Its difficult to say why other than the JP portion of the community frowned on lotting in PTs and the rest of the community just kinda followed suit and conformed to it.

If you need a particular scroll that dropped while fighting beastmen in a PT, its OK to lot so long as you ask, but otherwise, people will frown on it.

Often times you can also discuss in advance who gets what if certain items drop (Carbuncle Ruby, Subjob quest items, etc ) in that case usually, in the PT's I've been in at least, everyone passes when you lot on whatever it is you've been looking for - standard stuff. In events, its usually on the QM system, even when we BCNM in our LS its on QM - but not always, depends on who is organizing it.

This is pretty simple, really. The JP community didn't have to frown on it for it to become something that annoys everyone. I don't want to organize my inventory all the time (sorta moot finally...), and I don't want to lot every single item of what is often a pool of 12. Your casting lots means all 5 members of your party must now spend their time to cast lots on the same stuff if they want it as well. And why bother when you get the same results if no one lots?

In other words, you're wasting not only your time, but the time of everyone else in the party.

But no one's ever opposed to lotting SJ items or other value-less items (to those that no longer need).
