  • FFXI Crash

Hello, i need some help with my FFXI because of some crashing error.

One day i was going to an Assault, and it happened to be in Mount Zhylom. So when i zoned through the runic portal to go to the Staging Point, the game would be repeatedly stuck in the "Downloading Data..." stage. So then i tried the game again without the Windower and the same thing happens...so i thought that probably the game had a file corrupted since my friends saw me online(d/cing though) and the flist was normal to them. As to promote this i can log on my mule in Jeuno and its fine. There is no indication that any files should be corrupted though, since i dont DAT mod or anything.

I reinstalled the game with the patching and then it seemed to go into the game(though i didnt log on yet), so then i fuddled around with the RegEdit to make the game look cooler and it worked before i crashed too. Then it would crash unsuspectingly after i launch the game. So i thought maybe it was that...so i defaulted the Config to reset everything...and it still crashed. Another reinstall later and NO touching of anything it still crashes, with and without windower, fullscreen or not after clicking Play.

So basically i am stuck now, i have no clue whats going on...can anyone help me with this? There was no POL error, just the Windows message of the game ending and should i send an error report...any suggestions?

Is FFXI the only thing that you have crashing?

Seems like this problem has been getting progressively worse for you. What I've gathered is that you:

        1) Could log onto your mule but not your main.

        2) Reinstalled - and played w/ the Registry.

        3) Defaulted configs and no go.

        4) Can't play period now.

I don't know about you, but I'd do two things. Pick the easiest one for you to do first.

        1) Do a full wipe and restart from scratch. Yes, format the HD('s), reinstall the OS and start from the ground up and see if that works.

        2) If no, then contact POL and see what happened to your account.

Since you seem to have tinkeritis, you might have messed up something in the registry. I used to do that all the time. >.> I've had occasions in the past where I thought I had cleaned the registry completely and did the reinstall, only to find out that the application didn't work. 9/10 times, a fresh install (from the ground up) would fix the issue.

Thanks for the help...i might not do that just yet as i came back after taking a break(been working on this the entire day kinda..) and i tried the fullscreen normal again...and basically what happened was...

It spazzed out a bit, fading to black and to desktop a couple times..then gave me

"Terminated as error occured in Final Fantasy XI. Failed to Initialize Direct3D. Please check that this computer has the required specifications to run Final Fantasy XI(-1)"

          What does this mean? @_@

I'm not sure if this is at all a related problem, but a friend and I have been getting "disconnecting from server" and error messages when logging on at times, and it totally freezes over. This is only recently and seems to happen alot.

It means that you are having a graphics related issue.

Have you changed your video card lately? If so: What type and what drivers are you using?

If not, have you upgrated drivers? Are you overclocking your card(s)? (I've never tried w/ FFXI....they don't need it.) What else have you changed?

You can also run dxdiag.exe and verify that everything works there.

Sorry, that isn't related to the OP.

                Re: FFXI Crash

If that was directed at me, could it be that I have a great computer and an awful graphics card? I was going to update soon anyway.

While I'm here, I dont wish to derail the OP's topic but how do I find the registery on Vista? Nothing comes up when I imput the supposed in the /run feature.

As for OP, I believe a game reinstall is in need also.

It was. You should post up your error messages in a new thread. It helps keep the board clean. There are a lot of helpful people here, but if you hijack a thread, they'll be less helpful....or they might hammer on you while giving you slow, painful advice. Most likely though, they just won't answer.

Have not changed my Drivers or card, however mine is a ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 and at normal clock speed...i also downloaded their Catalyst thing a while ago too..and i tested the card out at dxdiag. Still no go..-_- Goddamnit... I even reinstalled the drivers a bit ago =/ And reinstalled the game twice as it is..

Any way i can fix my registry, hopefully without reformatting? This never happened before...and i can launch WoW too so my card has to be fine.

I'm on the 360 version and it crashed as I tried to enter Buburimu Peninsula from Tahrongi Canyon. It just crashes as the place is loading before I get the chance to move, and everytime I log in its just stuck. I cant do anything! I've spent quite a while on this game and dont really wanna start again!

It depends. But since you don't know what's messed up, it makes it pretty hard to fix it. Formatting will give you a clean sheet to start from. I'm not saying that it would fix it, but the odds are better.
