  • Quick Question About: /shout

If you /shout, will the ENTIRE zone be able to see it? Or only a large portion of the zone around you?

Because i was Tele-Taxing in whitegate while doing Alchemy, so i was at the little Alchemist Guild in the back of the zone, and for about 2 hours i didn't see a single shout. However when i started walking back to the Moghouse i saw /shouts everywhere for missions and teleports and retraces, etc. Because people normally /shout around the Moghouse area.

So i was wondering if there was just like a /shout radius or if you /shout will the ENTIRE zone be able to see it regardless of where you are?

    Its been bugging me

A big ol' circle. But not to the ends of the earth.

I used to shout for teles by the Home Point crystal in Lower Jeuno and feel all unloved when no-one would answer me.
Oh, Warp. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

      Re: Quick Question About: /shout

Yes, it's a radius like /say. Much larger, obviously. While /say is about 50', I would think that /shout would be 100' to 200'. Not enough for the entire zone, but if you stand in the right spot you can probably get 90% of most zones.

Either that or we have a lot of crazy people on Bahamut that have one-sided conversations with themselves over shout.

Somehow... the second one seems more plausible to me.

        Re: Quick Question About: /shout

There was an update many years ago that reduced the range for /shout from the whole zone to a wide area around the player. Not sure what the radius is exactly but it's quite large.

I hate when people have conversations in shout, /shout is used to ask for help, tell people what you are selling, and other things, but not conversations. Thats like people irl talking on speaker phones in publics..nobody wants to know your buisness people. Thats why there is /tell.

while that is true it is still fun to imagine you ppl scowling at us on the other side of your monitors for talking in /shout. i personally dont do it often only when i see someone i know doing it first, then i heckle them in front of everyone... but yeah kinda annoying but not world ending. but some people are to stiff to realize that it is a game and it is not really hurting you, so what is the big deal.
