  • Moving from America to the EU?

So this may not be the right place for this question (and it may not even be an issue, I don't know) Anyway. I currently live in North America, however I'm going to be spending a couple of months in germany studying this summer. The question then, is when I go to germany with my NA versions of the game will I have problems accessing my normal servers? I have no clue how FFXI handles it's server access, and I don't even own FFXI yet, however I want to pick up the game soon, but if I can't access North American servers from the EU then it is probably a deal breaker. Any info about what I need to do or look out for would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance,
    Hyver

The FFXI servers are totally integrated. There are no 'EU' or 'US' servers the way LotRO (and I've heard WoW, but wouldn't know, don't play it) are. There's players from all over on the servers, and they are not restricted in any way, to my knowledge. So I don't think you would have any problems accessing from Germany.

Just remember that if your version of the game is NA, all the expansions will only work if you get the NA versions too.

Someone correct me if im wrong, but i think thats it.

That's one of the ideas I've been greatly impressed with. The server list you see is the entire server list for the countries that can access the game. One of my all time favorite friends I played FFXI with a few years ago lives in London and we partied more often than my US friends most of the time ^^ Accessing the server will put you on the same one as the rest of us.

I'm not certain about the country specific versions but I think that which client you have mainly holds information for which language your game will be in.

Balfree is correct. You must use the NA version with NA expansions, but other than that there is no restrictions on where you can play from or play with. This is why many EU players have NA accounts, they imported.

Awesome, thanks for the help guys. I'm used to world of warcraft (though I kicked that habit about 7 months ago) where the servers are all region specific. Anywho, now I just need to get my motorcycle fixed, get the game (or a buddy pass) and start work on my corsair :-)

You will be fine. I am in the military and have played FFXI in Germany, Italy, Korea, Japan, Australia, Honduras, and the US. Just do as normal, there is no difference in play anywhere in the world. If a new expansion comes out make sure you get the one that corresponds to your version. You can preorder the new expansions off amazon and get it in the mail about 3 days after everyone else, but still better than not getting it.

Hello and I am sorry to write here but this is kinda related and I can't seem to post new thread ( my mac ibook simply "unexpectadly quit safari" all the time when I clicked on New Threat ). We are in Sydney Australia and have a U.S. NTSC PS3 system and just bought the 2008 Vana'diel collection NTSC U.S. game for the PS2 from ebay. But we can't seem to play the game. It prompt us to download a PS2 system data from Playstation store which is supposedly under "Game Add-ons" section. It wasn't there ( could it be because our Playstation store is linked to Australian or European ones ). What the.......
Anyone knows how we can play the game with our U.S. PS3 ???? We are using Xbox 360 atm and have to take turns playing the game.
Has anyone in Australia or even Europe manages to play the FFXI online game successfully with their U.S. PS3 ????
                Tyvm and take care.

Odd. It should be up in all of the PSN stores.

In any case, you should be able to grab the US version from the US PlayStation Store by creating a US PlayStation Network account.

You'll find the PS2 Data download in Add Ons > Disc Based Add Ons.
