POL uses hacker ports??!

I'm posting this because I'm getting sick and tired of the BS POL is feeding me.

We have two Computers, both of which run FFXI and both connect thru a router. Now I've disabled every single security feature on my PC Firewalls, Ativirus software, everything. I've powered down the Modem and router and connected directly to the modem.

Every single time I try to download the update it downloads info fine. Checks the files fine.. actual download of update reaches 2% then gives the 1160 Error.

Tracert goes thru without any problems. No Timeouts or failures.

My ISP swears they only block Hacker ports...

My ISP can tracert to qc000.pol.com, I can Tracert, POL can tracert to me but the ffxi update will not download. Even my Xbox cannot download.

Clearly if both my PC and Xbox cannot connect it's a blocked port so why the F*** does POL use HACKER ports??!!!

Your ISP is the one who doesnt know what theyre talking about, and if their methods of getting clients is by swearing their stuff works... then I'm sorry for you ><

I had trouble d/l the update, I had to click retry about 10 times but it went through. Probably just very busy on SE's end

POL uses all ports (I think it's stated somewhere in the support pages, it says to open all 1-65535) (I forget the 6 number but it's 6xxxx), I found this out when I was trying to configure my router.

Im not an expert but i dont think there's such a thing as a hacker port, any port as long as its opened up, can be targetted for hacking, that doesnt make it a hacker port, it makes it a vulnerable port... like all the others.

Call you ISP, tell them to stop blocking ports for you.

Khei, please let me apologize for the unhelpful and undesirable comments you managed to obtain here today, I have removed all the posts as none of them have served to help you. I'm not gonna get into details, hopefully that was the end of that.

Now on to your problem, it is definetly your ISPs fault, you might be loyal to them and you might have your reasons, but they are the ones blocking your access to those ports, and there is nothing no one can do unless they stop blocking them. If your ISP refuses to unblock them, then you have a problem that we can't help you fix. If that is the case, might I suggest contacting SE and asking them the best course of action?
