FFXI free trail?

Hey guys,
I have been playing MMO's since UO and have atleast tried everyone that has been released except FFXI. Iam playing WoW right now and quite honestly I am bored out of my skull. I wanted to try something new and thought i would give FFXI a shot but i cant seem to find a free trail is there one? also can you buy the game through digital download or would i have to go to a store to buy it?

it's trial. trial not trail...

the closest thing you get to a free trial is the buddy pass, which allows you to download the base game and gives you 30 days free play. After the 30 days (or the end of the month whichever comes sooner), if you don't cancel your ids, you will be charged. You will also need to provide a valid credit or debit card.

Alternatively, there's a $2 starter disc sold at many US stores now. It gives you an account witht he core game, but it installs the first 3 expansions.
