  • Burn Parties

I've been reading up on "burn parties" and was curious about how common they are. I played FFXI for about a year back in 2004 and I don't remember anyone using this type of party structure (granted, I didn't get much past 35 if I remember correctly). Now that I'm a newbie again and am about to start partying in the dreaded Dunes, I was wondering, are these the type of parties I should be looking for or is this more of a higher level party structure?

    Thanks,
    Croix

    Re: Burn Parties

They're common for ~65-75 (maybe earlier) and for meriting. You wouldn't, and shouldn't, have seen them at 35.

Until then (unless you're a BLM, things change a little sooner for BLM) you'll probably have Tank, Healer, Support DDx3 or some slight variation of that for parties. Though some will try to burn much earlier then they should.

The parties you should be looking for are the ones you have fun in.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

For non-BLMs, you might see a burn party as early as level 60-61, fighting Lesser Colibri in Bhaflau Thickets.

For BLMs, it happens a bit sooner, around level 54-55, which is when you first get access to Wizard's Gloves and Bards get access to Mage's Ballad II, which enables parties to go crazy with ancient magic.

They don't really become the norm until level 65+, but by the time you reach level 70, it's hard to find anything except a burn party.

I was in a pretty good party last night in the thickets - level 57-59, consistent chain 7.. man it feels good to play RDM again!

To the OP - there's a bunch of definition of a burn party, but the one I think fits best is any party where your EXP rate is incredibly fast (more than say.. 4k/hr) Once you get to the point where you can party comfortably in Aht Urghan areas (about level 55), that's pretty much where these kind of parties really start to gain strength, though as Ice said BLMs can start a little earlier on the strength of a RDM or BRD and some hMP gear.
