  • Do localized versions matter for FFXI?

As an ex-WoW player, I've purchased the EU version to play on EU servers for lesser lag and trivial time differences. Given that all the servers are integrated in FFXI, does that mean I could purchase the US version and still play with players from Europe (and others places) with no changes in lag etc. whatsoever?

    Thank you. xP

There is zero difference between different localizations. Well, maybe the EU one will spell "color" differently, but that's all I can think of.

There's no difference in lag, who you can play with, and so on. The JP on the PS2, the NA on the 360, and the EU on the PC can all party together without many noticeable differences on the end of the server.

So, no, localized versions don't really matter. Just get the one for your area and have fun.

(Oh, and, one more thing: registration codes from one localization only work for that localization. Meaning, you can't use an EU code to register a NA copy.)

Ya this and language inputs are the only differences between the localized copies.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Hell, the Vana'diel Collection is $52 including shipment here. No expansion for me in the meantime.

I believe you can't mix versions for expansions, either. E.g. if you have the EU version of FFXI, then all your expansions must also be EU.

Aye I think I read a topic about it earlier. It's ok though, since the collection already contains localized versions of all the expansions so there is no need for me to mess with it.
