Does the XBOX 360 controller for PC work for FFXI? Do any other controllers similar to consoles work that you recommend? It's just easier for me, is all.

Reason: no links? I didn't put a link...
To my knowledge... yes. You might need to buy an adapter for it though, but yes, it'll work. I know of people who use a PS2 controller WITH an adapter as well.
I myself use a Logitech wireless controller made for PC though.
yes that does work but I heard you have to do something funny to get the triggers to work with that controler(like unoffical drivers).
Personnly I'd reccomend something similar to the Playstation 2 controler...AKA: The Dual Shock 2. The game has had several clients by now but the orignal one was for PS2.
Both of these tak some slight tweaking to set the buttons like the respecive console versions but it's well worth the effort ^^

I've heard nothing but bad stories about people trying to use 360 controllers with FFXI on PC.
I personally recommend you learn to use the keyboard, it's very comfortable and far nicer to use than constantly switching between holding a controller, putting down the controller, typing in your response, picking the controller back up...
If you must get a controller, I recommend logitech, although the one above looks surprisingly cheap and uncomfortable for a logitech product.

Nope. I've had mine for 2 years and still works g reat. It's around $40, depending on where you get it, and the only thing with mine now is the 2 button is softer now from the constant pressing and holding down on it.

The 360 controller works and is very confortable. Just as others mentioned before, you'll need unofficial drivers to get the triggers to work, although they can easily be remapped to the LB and RB buttons.
If you have a wireless 360 controller, you'll need to get the wireless receiver which runs about $20.
EDIT* Also, I might add that if you want to use a 360 controller, if you also have a 360 console, might as well get it for the console. $20 brand new for the game and all the expansions.
I have the same controller that Eohmer posted. It's very comfortable. The only frustrating aspect to it is that my PC doesn't recognize it in the same way it recognizes a mouse or keyboard. So eventually my monitor will go into power saving mode, unless I regularly type something.
I still prefer the keyboard though. FFXI's default keyboard control scheme is very easy to use.
