I need help...

I have searched the forums, I have read the stickies and have not found a solution to my problem.

I can deal with WASD controls, no problem. But when I press W A S or D, it starts enterting text into my chat window. I must have pressed something but after spending 2 hours trying ot figure this out, I have no other choice but ot ask for help. Please. I want to play this game, but I refuse to run around with mouse controls, it feels wrong.

You need to go into your main menu, then config, then keyboard, and change to compact keyboard if you want to use WASD movement. But that's not the default control scheme.

The default scheme uses the numpad ( 4, 8, 6, 2, zoom with 9 and 3) and arrow keys for camera. This can all be done with one hand, and without the mouse.

Or you can purchase a PS2 adaptor and use a PS2 controller, or use a PS2 type controller, or I think an Xbox 360 controller.

The controls are listed in your manual, or at least on the little controls at a glance sheet you should have received in your copy of the game.

Awesome! And I'm guessing that thre is no configuration that will allow the arrow keys (I guess that's only logical in American games or somin :/ )

I'm not 100% sure on that one. In the default config they control the camera, which is how I prefer it, so I've never really messed around with re-configuring them.

I'm gonna try pluggin' in my 360 controller and see what happens. I may have a better time with it. Thanks for the input I'm starting ot enjoy the game more now :D

lol much the same, started off on PS2 and now on PC for quite awhile. Really had to use a controller still. Are you using the wireless? I am thinking of making that change but wonder about the efficiency, a~ I'd heard you could get an adapter for the 360 wireless to plug it into PC but dunno much more about it than that.

Yes, you can, it's 20$ and it's amazing.

When I returned for my last 3 month FFXI venue, I bought this adaptor, I'll never use a keyboard again in FFXI (unless it's to talk)

I LOVE this thing. It has a pretty good battery life if you don't use the rumble feature. I've had it for over 2 years and still works great.

Note: It is NOT as flimsy as the wired controller that's also out there. The wireless is MUCH better.

Pretty much anything made by Logitech is exceptionally well made IMO.

I personally favor the mouse+keyboard combo, but if I were to go with a controller it'd be the Logitech ones.

Actually... there is one thing. I LOVE Logitech. I have a Wireless Logitech keyboard, mouse, webcam, headset, that controller for PC, wireless controller for my PS2... they rock.

BUT!... I once got the wired controller for the PC... it sucked. The d-pad was too soft and the analog sticks would get stuck and off centered.

imo the best wired controller for the PC is actually a PS2 Dual Shock II. it's pretty easy to get adapters for it and if you're used to PS2 games anyway its a natural transition. the only real issue is that PC controllers/games often use numbers for the buttons and it takes a bit to memorize what corresponds to what when you play other games beyond FFXI. The first time I tried playing Madden on the PC I was throwing the ball all over the place. lol

I use the same thing, only not wireless. The batteries always seem to die at the most inopportune of times. My husband loves his wireless though.

Oh wow, that's pretty sweet. I'm really wanting one of those now o_o I don't own anything wireless and that would be my first wireless device. Unless you count my cell phone D:
