  • Race and Job Issues

Ok, I'm new to the world of Vana'diel, I just got done downloading the whole game to my computer. The question that I would like to ask you people is, What job/race should I play? I tried to be a Mithra/Monk, but I found out I didnt really like that. (even though I only leveled to level 2.) So, I deleted her. I am stuck and, I really dont know what to do. So if anyone could help me, I would really love that!

edit: Also, the races that I do have in mind are: Hume,Mithra, and Tarutaru, sense they are really the only ones I think I could learn to look at for a long time. I am male, and I dont care about the race issue with Mithra, I just dont know what face I like the best..its to hard because what if I get tired of looking at her/him? And want to be somthing else? o_O

Pick a race you like the look of. Any race can play any job and you can change jobs at any time.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

You only leveled to...2? Level 2. Like, the level you get after killing three things.

None of us are going to be able to tell you what you'll like to play. Try a few different jobs (Protip: You can change them in your moghouse, without having to delete the character - unless of course it's the race of the character you hate, at which point deletion is your only real option) out, and see which ones you like.

I know that, I just didnt like sitting there as a mnk and watch her hit somthing while I do nothing it got boring fast to me. I like doing somthing to help the party/myself, not just sit there and, watch her hit and see what happends....

You were level 2, every job is auto attack at that level. Besides, DD is helping your party, how do you think things die?

I know that, I just thought I would do more then just attack? I dont know, I was just testing to see how the game was. Maybe DD and Meleeing is not my thing.

              Maybe.

And (bear with me here), maybe you should give it a try beyond level 2.

But as Mhurron said. Monk? Auto attack with punching. Thief? Auto attack with stabbing. Warrior? Auto attack with chopping. Red Mage? Auto attack with a spell that does minor damage over time. White mage? Auto attack with a spell that can heal. Black Mage? Auto attack and some rocks that blow up from the ground.

It's pretty good times with the auto attack no matter what.

I like this description of Stone. Maybe you should rewrite all the spell descriptions.

Hmmm, I guess I will try BLM then, thanks for your time.

I am still confused about what race to play lol. Mithra, are pretty hot, but at the same time tarutaru are cute and good at magic. Humes are good at everything, I dont know I guess it doesnt matter. I just dont want to pick somthing all get tired of looking at in a week or so. (doubt that matters to but still...)

No, it's the most important choice. Pick a character that you are going to enjoy looking at for a long time.

Taru is better than all. (Slightly biased)

                          Re: Race and Job Issues

I suggest trying out the different jobs beyond level 2. I've gotten my mithra monk level to 12 and I like it. The high damage of a monk and the good evasion of a mithra is a nice combination. It's hard to get a feel of how the job really works if you only take it to level 2. But if you get bored of just hitting things and doing nothing else, then one of the mage jobs might be good choice for you. My level 7 white mage already has cure, dia, and banish. Mages can mix up fighting a little more by throwing in their magic abilities.

But about race, I have to admit, it can be a tough choice. Before I got the game I was mostly thinking about going with either hume or mithra. But after I got the game and watched those little video things for each character. They do a pretty good job at making all of them look nice. XD Honestly, one of the main reasons why I went with mithra was simply the fact that that is what I had planned on doing. It does get a little awkward though playing as a girl and having other people assume that you are a girl in real life when you aren't. I guess there is a part of me struggling over whether or not I should stay as a mithra or switch to hume, but it's probably more likely that I will stay. I have developed my character a bit and have made a couple friends. I'm also not that big on pting and fighting monsters. I'm just a quiet adventurer. And the mithra does a better job of capturing that feeling than a hume.

In the end, just go with what you feel is right.

If this is to be your mindset for the duration of your play, you might wanna quit. Sorry.

Don't get me wrong, adventuring and exploring, and etc is always a fun thing to do. Unless you're stuck as a lvl12 MNK.

Also, partying can be a very fun thing to do when you're with other people who meet certain criteria (aren't assholes, aren't dumb as hell, don't get easily upset, don't go afk every 10 minutes, are competent, etc, etc).

                            Good luck.

To the OP: Don't let job choice influence your decision to be a certain race. Every race can play ever job just fine. Pick a race that you will enjoy playing as.

I'm not going to quit. And I don't see why I should. And when I said I'm not that big with pting and fighting monsters, I didn't mean I don't want to fight and just explore a computer generated world. How do you think I got to level 12? I'm just a casual player, that's all.
