  • Common money-making question, but still

Ok, I know everyone asks this question, but I really want to ask. Right now I'm leveling 3 jobs to 37 as subs, so I'm gonna run into money trouble. As a matter of fact, 2 of those jobs are NIN and RNG. So yeah, lots of money to lose. Problem is, I have no money. Only 2k. Spent it all on lv20 NIN equipment. So now I'm a 20 NIN, and got a 36 MNK with no equip that I can farm on.

So...any ideas on how to make some money? I may be taking up Cooking, Alchemy and Smithing for making bullets and food. Any profit I can make on those while I level them? And any good alternatives to beehive chips? I really need to make more money. Any lv20 BCNMs that NINs are good on? I'm also researching what sells ATM, looking at Wild Onions and fishing.

sure. Do a search on how to make money and read the millions of replies that have already been posted.

I wouldn't count on making much if any money while leveling a craft. If you pore over the listings at ffxiah there's an odd chance that you'll find something that profits off an NQ synth, but in general crafting is done at a loss unless you HQ something, which you can't do with any regularity until you're 31+ levels over the synth's cap. That's especially true for cooking and alchemy.

Ninja and red mage are good in BCNM20 Crustecean Conundrum in Waughroon Shrine. That fight has a 100% drop of mannequin ... body I think. It's more of a pain to sell since you can't AH it, but it's reliable money.

One option would be to level a few more jobs from lvl 1-10, and sell the drops on the AH for a little bit of extra cash. Depending on how much time you have during the week you can get at least one job to 10 in about 15-20 hrs without using an empress band. I recommend not using the exp band if you are "farming" those levels. Admitidly you will not earn a lot of gil doing this, however, everything you get will be yours as opposed to partying. Also, you can do those levels in your lvl 1 RSE. Your only purchase would be a weapon. Good luck.

*edit* I just noticed you have leveled almost every job to level 10, but I will leave my post for others to see.

Some crafts have low-level synths that are not a loss (e.g. Smithing: Bronze Ingot, Goldsmithing: Copper Ingot), however there are stages in even the cheapest crafts that are all loss, and former lowish profit synths such as Poison Potion are now over-saturated in terms of supply and more difficult to profit on effectively (though this applies to a lot of farmed items too; in the current deflationary economy, supply often far outstrips demand on anything that's not very hard to get (e.g. time-limited supply)).

I have had good luck with finding items that are not available at the AH at the time. You are usually able to ask much more than an average price if no one is selling them at the AH at the time. For example, I kept catching a certain fish (which will remain unnamed), and thought I was just filling up my item slots for nothing. Only to find that no one was selling them at the AH and I was consistently doing so at 1000 gil a pop. GL!

Why can't you farm beehive chips? Go mnk/thf in sarutabaruta (or any other lower level area that has bees) and go nuts. They're only like 5k on my server right now, but if you just specifically target those and get a few stacks at a time, it's still decent money at lower levels.
