Now...why should I buy this game...?

A friend told me that she used to play it when it came out , and had loads of fun with it, I'm looking for an alternative to Guild wars, and WoW I have bad luck trying to get to work...


But what is good about this game? What kind of thing separate this game from every other MMO out there?

and most of all, I hear that this game is practically empty, and that there are almost no players anymore, is this true?

This game pretty much in a whole different level compare to any MMORPG out there.

- Strong community bonding - you are playing one character name through many jobs, hence making a bad reputation will tarnish your career

- Excellent story line - only if you have the patient to even unvolve these stories. Like tradition RPG, you even have to level even get pass new areas. This game really follow its.

- Many type of armors, unlimited combination. Not only you could wear the AF but also many combinations. These armors aren't like WoW where mythil chest of bear or mythril chest of wolf. But unique names with unqiue stats. All different looks

- Graphic still simply amazing, comparing to what current US market has to offer, you will find FFXI still attain the best graphic among them all.

- Focusing in partying froster greater relationship (pretty much screwed if you are unsocial). Soloing is alone but boring. Partying create unlimited combination and possibility.

...16 classes to choose from, with subjob combination...what more you could ask for?

Anyhoo, you should get it cuz we say so! Also it's final fantasy for pete's sake! It's the only online game I know that has a REAL storyline--not WoW with it's quick intro of the race and bam everything else is grinding. There actually is a story to this game. And it's cool cuz SE forces you to party and make friends.

Let me tell you something. From November till January, I've been switching and searching for MMORPG's. YIPP, WoW, guild wars, PKO, CoH/CoV, RS (classic, everyone that had a crap up computer played it--I don't reccommend tho), SL, Oz, Scions, Gunz(still do), and a heck lot more. LEt me tell ya tho. In ways FFXI is different. The details and char descriptions are grand. The music, well-balanced. The cool day-and-night effect, still loving it (also shops open/close during Vana'diel time: 1 day is 1 hour earth time). And the community is great. The reason why I have stuck to FFXI tho, is because the all above (also there's a huge story to it) and the fact that is was made for multiplayers! Unlike WoW where you can be an anti-ssocial nerd calling ppl noobs and soloing all day long, you actually have to pt, meet friends, and overcome obstacles together. Also this game gives you goals. Unlike your adverage "lvl to lvl 40 and you get your mount", SE made it so you have goals. Like at lvl 10 you can go to the dunes and start soloing. Lvl 18, go get yourself a sub job. Lvl 20, the best day of anyone's life, YOU GET A CHOCOBO LICENSE! Lvl 30, you get adv jobs, and so on forth. Your constantly challenged to play. Unlike WoW where the goal is far away. FFXI makes it so you have small goals every few steps, therefore making it seem like all your effort is paying off. (which btw the job system rocks because you have to go unlock it, unlike the adverage, "pick the job at character creation" Well I mean you do pick your job at the beginning, buit I'm talking about the advanced jobs, the fun ones!) So in conclusion, after all of this crap I dragged out. FFXI is defintely worth a try. Let me warn you tho. At the beggining you'll be lost, confused, and mostl ikely bored. But that's the beginning. Once you hit 10, you'll like partying, and once you get 20, you'll love the freedom of a choco. So I say give it a go!!

Yes, the way it forces you to group up is undeniably the best part about FFXI.(Although sometimes the worst, ask a DRG or DRK who has been flg for 4 hours ) The main difference I've seen between this MMO and others I've seen my friends play is the community. I haven't just grouped with a few people for raids or exp. I've made friends. I've traveled to other states to party with my linkshell members. I've found out that friends that were on my friend list since my first dunes party 3 years ago lived 15 minutes from me. I've shared good news, I've been able to bitch on my bad days and actually have people listen and give advice, and I have helped people through their hard RL times. You just don't find stuff like that on other MMOs.

Then there are the storylines, which are just crazy. The missions, which you put in hours and hours of hard work with a group of 5 friends, and the feeling that comes with finally beating it.

Plus the game is just freakin deep. There's what, like 17 different jobs to level, all with their own special artifact gear storyline quests, there's several different crafts, there's PvP events, raid-style events, hobbies, chocobo raising/racing, all kinds of stuff.

The detractors: Some MMOs are slightly better looking, and FFXI is not really for the casual gamer. It takes decent chunks of time and focus to pull of the goals that you want to reach. But the enjoyment you get from them is more than I can see you getting from a different MMO.

Well.. I went through this same discussion about three years ago when I first heard about FFXI from a pair of coworkers who played. One of them also played Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest AND what was then the WoW beta. My uber-gamer friend told me that between the four games, FFXI provided the best balance of playability, ease of use, minimal need for a system (since I'm on PC, but you also had the option of using a PS2 and now you can also get XBox 360), and flexibility to create your character in the game. Galaxies requires a MONSTER machine, forces you into a pretty straight path, and takes a lot of work to get your character up to speed. WoW is simply too damn easy to play, and also doesn't allow you to change your character to a new "job" without ditching your progress. Everquest was just eh.. (not sure about EQ2 though I never heard anything about it). FFXi seemed like the best balance of everything, and it also had a seemingly more original and compelling story behind it.

• Deep community: Unlike other games like WoW, FFXI pretty well forces you to get involved with others as early as you can. It is essential for EXP, Missions, and helps to build great friendships.
• Amazing Story: Personally, I find FFXI is SE's best story to date. You won't be able to blow through it all at once, but once you start getting to the higher up stuff and especially the Chains of Promathia missions, you'll come to just love the story of Vana'diel. Also, almost every quest in the game has some kind of unique and interesting story to it.
• Vast Job Selection: With 18 different jobs to choose from (all of which you can switch between on the fly with the aid of a Moogle) you'll more than likely find yourself trying to find which job you like best. Since you can effectively lv all jobs to 75 on a single character, there's no real need to create multiples.
• Unique Jobs: The biggest benefit to having so many classes is how different they all play. While there are generally 4 main roles in party (Tank, Heal, Damage and Support) each class tackles one or more of these rolls in a myriad of ways; Ninja for example is great at tanking, enfeebling and dealing damage. Or if you really like the crazy stuff, you can become a blue mage and use monster's techinques in battle!
• Support Job System: Typically, in most RPG's you play only one class at a time. In FFXI, you can do a quest once you are level 18 and obtain a sub job. This effectibely allows you to play two classes at once, with your sub always being half your main's level. You have to level your sub jobs up separately from your main, but that only adds to the fun!
• A massive world: Vana'diel is monstrously huge, and we haven't even seen all of it yet. There are at the moment 3 main continents, along with a few "other" realms to explore. From the starting cities to the ruins of flying palaces from an ancient race you'll be pleasantly surprised by the diversity of Vana'diels "zones"

I could go on, but I think that's enough for now.

Recollection is a cool video and very inspiring to log into the game and level grind and be all leet and shit, but when I think of the video that most descibes my feeling about FFXI, it's this one.
