CoP or ToAU?

As I continue on the hard paved road of Job searching, I plan to finally buy an expansion for my FFXI. Why not buy the Collection? I'm on PS2. Which I brought the HDD last year. On Ebay. Good ol' Ebay...

Anyway! I would get both, but I'm just going to buy one now and help my mom with the bills, and in the future think about the other. But what exactly would benefit me more for the time being?

I've been trying to decide for myself but since I'm not familiar with them, I was hoping to be given suggestions.

To me, ToAU looks better but... @.@ I just don't know~

Lv.55+ leveling these days is largely in ToAU zones. CoP is a nice story you unlock via challenging missions, but can be deferred if you don't have a Lv.75 job yet.

That said, I like what I've seen of CoP storyline a lot, while I can't remember much of any ToAU mission line I've completed so far. ._.

You'd want a copy of CoP, eventually.

At your levels, neither has very much to offer. A lot of the content that doesn't depend at all on level seems to require having both expansions according to SE.

The main thing ToAU would give you now is access to the Blue Mage, Corsair, and Puppetmaster jobs.

CoP wouldn't give a lot of tangible benefits, but you may be able to get through the earlier CoP missions with the right group.

ToAU will start becoming important about when you hit the mid-to-upper 50s levelwise, as that's when you will start getting XP party invites to ToAU areas such as Wajaom Woodlands or Bhaflau Thickets.

That said, I don't know personally of anyone who's tried to install ToAU without CoP, so I can't speak to any issues that this may raise. SE has a tendency to make things dependent on all expansions being installed, at least judging from the wording of their announcements.

Hmm. S-E's site just says "the Final Fantasy XI game must be installed beforehand," doesn't say ToAU needs other expansion packs.

If you have a decent PC The New Collection is only like $30 at most (and that's Canadian >. >)


Otherwise I'd have to say ToAU for end game leveling and 3 new jobs. COP is sooooo amazing though and you're missing out on a lot of good stuff by not having both. The expansions are all dirt cheap anyway. While I won't criticize your budget, I don't see how getting both is a major issue.

SE has made each expansion separate from each other so that you do not need any previous (except RoZ if you have the NA client) to run any of the others.

To the OP: the problem is that as time goes on it's harder to find the expansions. You're going to want to jump on both CoP and ToAU when you find them.

But yeah. I see everyone's point. I might as well grab both expansions while I can. My Wal-Mart still has a ToAU for $30, and I can probably find CoP for $10 even. Thanks for the help all!

... Might as well save for a new computer while I'm at it. I always dreamed of burning this one in a bonfire.

the only thing you're *really* missing out on for cop is a ring you'd need a 70+ job to get anyway @.@ (and the bahamut BC's) and some ENM's (like bcnm's but with a time based entry rather than beastman seal entry) and a kickass story. oh, and swift belt. (there's more I'm sure but that's what comes to mind off the top of my head). oh yeah, some great leveling areas that no one will go to because they either don't have capped gear to get easy merits at level 40 or don't have the area because you need to be level 40 to get it and who really does missions as soon as they can these days anyway? :silly:

ToAU has the turban of awesomeness, some fantastic (almost too good :x) leveling areas, starting at about 53-55 and going all the way to 75. assault, which is good fun and great gear (and much easier to save for if you start at 50 like the content lets you do), including nyzul isle. a good storyline (with 100% less frustration than cop storyline) and, let's not forget. whitegate is the new jeuno.

you'll want cop eventually, there's alot of stuff locked away in the various cop zones, but if you could only get one, I'd say ToAU will be the most important.

I'll take the optical drive(s) and HDD though.. maybe.

Power supply, case, screws... I don't care how old a computer is, I can harvest a good bit from it.
