Both are because of mobs that can give lv. 60s a little trouble. Really though in that sense if you want to say NIN isn't soloable because of the leeches then BST shouldn't be soloable either since that Kraken guards the ???.
The Kraken 1. isn't always there 2. You can hit the ??? with sneak up.
And btw, you soloed the DRG Wyvern fight at 30?

Speaking as a level 30 who has been trying to do just this (whm and blm to 30, having whm to 25+ makes some of these much easier), read up on ffxilopedia about the quests before you try and do them to avoid nasty suprises. I haven't managed all of the advanced jobs by a long shot yet but things that may help you on the ones I have:

RNG: sooo easy, especially if you have a chocobo. the nm doesn't attack you just have to sit and wait for it to die. The only thing that confused me is that he actually spawned quite a long way down the tunnel from the trigger for the spawn so I thought I had mucked something up for a few minutes.

BST: I died getting this done because I wasn't quite fast enough on the warp macro after the cut scene finished but again, very much soloable.

BLU: When you read about the quest (look at one of the blu guides at the bottom of the blue mage page for details) find one with good directions because if you are like me and 30 is your highest job, you probably won't have maps to the places you will be going through. Once you figure out that /echo <pos> works without you having a map to the area and which way round the grid references go though, very simple with sneak/invis and directions.

COR/PUP: Not managed these yet but only had the one try. The lack of maps is hurting me on this one a bit because I haven't been able to find directions more specific than grid references and I got my butt kicked real real hard by an imp I wasn't expecting to be there while I was looking for the ??? for the key you need. Watch out for the swampy places as they can (possibly always do) inflict gravity status on you. Planning on having another go when I am feeling the need to do something fun as a break from making money. I am definitely with omg on these two. From reading the guides you pretty much have to run past the point for pup to get to the point for Cor so it makes sense to get all the cs's and do them together.

BRD: Easy and actually makes you a little money if you don't get impatient and pay for ports. Just requires running/chocoboing around for half an hour or so and smiling indulgently through the cut scenes.

SMN: Not quite finished but again fairly simple once you understand what you have to do. I got my Ruby in Buburimu, so long as you make sure you are really careful about linking then it seems to be a good palce to get it. The only thing that can be a slight pain about collecting the colours is that you have to zone in while the weather effect you are after is active so having the weather effect start while you are in the zone doesn't count unless you can get out and rezone in while it's still active.

I haven't tried any of the others yet but hopefully some of all that will have been useful to you.

The quest is easy. Don't fool yourself, the job is probably the hardest in FFXI.

Hardest, but worth it to play? Are they fun, do people like them in groups?

Fun is subjective. Depends on the person.

See FFXIclopedia for more details on each quest.

Here is a quick run down:

Beastmaster - Run to Qufim and touch Night Flowers. Night Flowers are guarded by a Kraken. Sneak handles that, or sometimes there may be a higher level hanging around that will kill it for you. The Kraken also makes a fun pet for Beastmasters, as it rapes anything else in Qufim.

Dark Knight - Talk someone in Bastok twice. Get to the top floor of Palborough Mines and ride the boat. You get a Greatsword. Use it to kill 100 enemies (can be lowbies). This can only be done by a WAR as the sword is WAR/DRK only, and you're trying to unlock DRK. Take sword to Beadeaux.

Paladin - Includes going to Davoi and Ordelle's Caves. Sneak/Invisible.

Summoner - Leech genocide to find Carbuncle's Ruby, then expose the Ruby to 7 outside weather elements. Ice is hardest to get, easiest way is to run through Ranguemont Pass to Beaucedine Glacier. Sneak/Invisible

Ranger - Chocobo to a cave in Sauromugue Champaign to watch an old Tiger die. Grab a bone, warp out. No steath spells/items necessary.

Bard - Cheer up a guy by bringing him rubbings of Song Runes in Valkurm and Buburimu. Lots of travel.

Dragoon - Most is soloable. Get a pickaxe, excavate in Maze of Shakrami for a dragon egg. Bring it to Sandy. Trade egg to Spine near Castle Oztroja, go back to Sandy. Get help to kill dragon.

Ninja - Talk to people in Bastok. Touch a spot in Korroloka Tunnel and fight three leeches (you'll need help). Touch spot again to get a key item, take it back to Basty. Go to Norg, sneak needed. Back to Basty again.

Samurai - Get two items in Norg. Kill a Forger (bomb) in Konschtat Highlands, and Guardian Treant in Sanctuary of Zi'tah. Back to Norg.

Blue Mage - Answer a guy's questions a certain way. Bring him the item he wants. Either Dangruf Wadi, Valkurm, or North Gustaberg is where you'll find it (depending on the item). Chocobo out to Aydeewa Subterrane and sneak past Deremites to a pool (Qiqirn don't aggro).

Puppetmaster - Talk to guy in Basty, talk to another in Whitegate. Find a ??? in Arrapago Reef.

Corsair - Talk to a couple people in Whitegate, touch a ??? in Arrapago Reef. Touch another ??? in Talacca Cove.

Wouldn't suggest trying to solo it at 30, takes way to much money to actual win the fight. Yeah, though still if you are someone gambling that the Kraken won't be there then you could end up waiting. Basically the same thing then if you are gambling with the leeches, you could essentially solo it then by just sitting there and waiting for a party to take care of the hard part for you.
