Due to character count limitation, I could not complete the guide in this thread and maintain the formatting needed. The new thread contains the same info, expanded, with room for completing the three Aht Urhgan jobs and future additions.Last edited by ItazuraNhomango; 05-11-2007, 05:26 PM.Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,

Re: Which Job Should I Play?
This is starting off to be a very nice guide.
A couple of things I'd like to add about WHM. Even though they are "squishier" than most other jobs, they are the most mobile. At level 36, Mea, Holla, and Dem are very useful and these Teleport scroll quests can be solo'd.
And at level 33, WHM gets Reraise. ^^
I realize you're talking about XPing situations, but I think these "perks" add to the overall WHM experience.
Edit:Weeee! Itazura added the info about the Teles!Last edited by Nakti; 04-12-2007, 04:53 AM.They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin

Re: Which Job Should I Play?
Hopefully now, when some newb asks about which job they can play, we can just point them at this thread and the mods can close their pointless thread. :D
Thanks to Roguewolf for the sig. :D

Re: Which Job Should I Play?
Not a major deal, but Summoner does not require RoZ to unlock/play. Quote from FFXIclopedia: "*=This Job was released with the update which first unlocked Rise of the Zilart content in April 2003, but it does not require possession of the Rise of the Zilart expansion disc to access." The asterisk originates at "Summoner." I believe this was also mentioned on the official site at one time, but they have changed it since then.
Like I said, not a big deal, but we may as well be accurate. Not like you can even get FFXI without RoZ anymore.
I agree with your evaluation level for Black Mage. I remember that it was in the 30s when BLM started to get good.Haggai

Re: Which Job Should I Play?
Just to nitpick:
NIN and COR are not convenience jobs by any stretch of the imagination.
Easy invites? Sure.
Easy on the wallet? Nope.
It costs lots of gil to support and get started in these two jobs. COR has to level RNG and NIN before they can really go all the way with them and optionally a WHM sub as well.
COR and RNG are pretty cheap on the gear, but more expensive than NIN in consumable items.
NIN armor generally is more expensive for NIN, but NIN tools are a bit cheaper due to how much they can be spread over the course of PTing or eventss.
Other jobs can sell equipment and see returns on that investment; once a NIN tool is used or an arrow is fired, its never coming back.
Easy to play effectively? Varies with the player very much. Its hard to gauge how a WAR or MNK is performing, but pretty obvious when a NIN or COR drops the ball on their duties.

Re: Which Job Should I Play?
Very nice, I like it alot.
Just hope that no one asks if they should play war vs drk vs drg vs all other DD melee
You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.
I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

Re: Which Job Should I Play?
While trying to finish up the Zilart's Extra Job portion, I ran into:
The text that you have entered is too long (26354 characters). Please shorten it to 25000 characters long.
Edit:
What should I do? Start a new thread? I don't want to radically edit my post to short each entry to cram in the last four Jobs.
Edit 2:
By "Start a new thread", I mean to reorganize the guide and splitting it into more posts. I'd like to keep the guide together, and not split apart by comments.
Edit 3:
What I couldn't add; someone review this as well as the other parts of "Extra Jobs (Zilart)", please.
SummonerSMN (( Summoner))
Suggested Lv: 25
Role(s): Support, Healer, Damage Dealer
Minimal Support Job(s): /WHM
Main Support Job(s): /WHM
Description:
Summoner is difficult to get a handle on. It (slowly) gains many useful support Blood Pacts as it levels, but it does not have any Refresh like capability. Its Avatars can open/close any skillchain, but generally not for great deal of damage. It can also Magic Burst for respectable damage, but not at all levels. It has a huge MP pool for healing, but is capped at Cure III from /WHM. It's a good addition for a balanced party with with everything already, though it usually brought in as a main healer. It can solo able on Bomb and Worm type of monsters outside of parties for experience points.
Long growth curve and diverse set of abilities makes SMN ideal for players looking for a challenge. Lv.25 is recommended; at that level, its ability includes tier II elemental magic BP's (Lv.10), Aerial Armor (Lv.25) buff, Lunar Cry (Lv.21) debuff, the ability to open and close all Lv.2 skillchain, and Cure II from /WHM (Lv.22). There is just the tip of a SMN's eventual power, but already covers all the basics with example of useful buff, debuff, healing, skillchain, and Magic Burst.
Since a SMN is overwhelmingly dependent on its Avatar, getting as many Avatar as possible before partying is a good idea. Certainly all the Celestial Avatars (Ifrit, Shiva, Garuda, Titan, Ramuh, and Leviathan) should be obtained, and Fenrir is highly recommend. Equipment wise, it's MP gear, and elemental staves (Lv.51) to save on perpetuation cost. Solo'ing SMN should obtain the HQ Light Staff, Apollo's Staff and enmity reduction gear as soon as possible.Last edited by ItazuraNhomango; 05-11-2007, 04:04 PM.Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
