Whats best way t make gil as a noob? DO I sell at AH or are there any npc's I can directly sell to as opposed to waiting for someone to buy my AH stuff? PLease let me know. Also how do I know what price to sell stuff at? Thanks...

Sell at AH, NPC prices are garbage, check the going rates by entering in to bid and price history, if you want it to move quicker, cutt your price.

Best way to start out is to sell everything you pick up in stacks of 12 (crystals esp)

Before you go out to kill pick up signet at gate and have at it. Since you probably dont know what job you are going to want in the long run and you will want to have all available for sub job combinations run all your starting jobs up to 15, the items collected and sold will give you a good base to buy gear with when making your push to 30 and subjob

Just sell stacks of crystals at the AH. I wouldn't really bother with anything else, because then you have to deal with taxes.

Sorry, I can't agree with this, esp when a stack of crystals goes for 1-2k and a stack of say silk thread goes for 10k plus and you won't have a use for it until +50 cloth. You can make a ton of money selling consumable goods that other crafters need just by watching auction movements.

I'm not sure what level you are, but from pretty much 1-10 I'd sell anything that drops during those levels. If you're in no rush level-level-level, you can pick up extra gil by merely leveling the starting jobs through those first 10 levels or so.

Please keep all of your Beastmen Seals; later they can be used to enter battlefields that typically have nice items, which can be sold for a substantial profit.

Like others have said, just watch the AH to see what sells and how prices fluctuate. If you have an extra PC, FFXIAH is a real nice site to monitor the AH from while you're away from town.

Always compare what an NPC will buy your drops for against what you can get at the AH for an item you've never gotten before. When you sell stuff to NPCs, you have to click on the item twice -- the first time will report the amount the NPC is willing to give you.

Some items simply don't sell well at the AH, so it might make more sense to sell them to NPCs. Even if an item seems to sell for a decent chunk of gil at the AH, pay attention to how often it sells. If an item is only selling once every few days for 500 gil, your AH slot might be better used for a different item.

some items actually sell for more to npcs than on the ah. crystals always sell those on ah because thery sell extremely fast. there are items that you can buy from ah and resell to npcs for a profit. as a new player i also suggest you find the npcs that have quests involving drops from the lower level mobs. you may not get as much for these items, but its fast gil and it adds to your fame, which also gives you lower prices when you buy from npcs and opens up other quests. crab meat usually sells for more to npcs than ah prices. ive made alot of gil buying stacks from ah and selling to npcs.

                Starting off the game, I seem only to be making gil off the crystals in the AH .. ;;

Actually there are rare instances where NPC prices are better than AH, especially with Hero Fame.

That aside, yes, sell stuff on the AH and try to take a craft while you're out farming and use the materials you gather (unless they're cheap enough from NPC/AH to maximize time vs money)

I'll agree the silk threads are something I forgot to mention, but that's only if you're starting out in Windurst. There's also Saru Cotton and Beehive Chips. But apart from that there's nothing else I can think of that's really worth it, you're best trading most things for quests or NPC's.

Hmm. Most crystals are about 800 Gil to 1.5k per stack on my server. So, to match or beat that in Auction House...All those and more can be found in beginner zones. Gather and stack any and all drops from killing monsters, then go to AH (or ffxiah.com) and NPC's to figure out how much they're worth would be instructive to any new player.

I liked farming in giddeus for low level gear, and then selling it in the AH.
Or buying something like a robe at a merchant and selling it in the AH. Sadly in windy I was able to triple my initial expense on that one...course that was afew years ago.

I cant' agree either anymore.. Crystal prices have dropped dramatically and continue to do so, at least that's the case on Ramuh.

There are items that sell better at the NPC than on the AH. Two I can think of immediately are Infinity Cores (dropped in Dynamis) and Colibri Feathers.

Then again, you may want to keep those Infinity Cores regardless and turn them into Rune Weapons.

Agreed but a brand new player just starting out isn't hitting Dynamis' or killing Colibri's.

My intent was to shape the answer generally for the OP, most early drop items sell for considerably more on AH than what you get from NPC buys, esp those exchanges that are worth fame. Bee chips, honey, cotton, silk, zinc ore, mushrooms, etc.
