  • Friend having Hardware TNL problem

We know he needs a new graphics card. The problem is he cannot afford it. I tried looking for a TNL emulator but none of the 3-d analyze programs didn't work.
( The 1.26 v one didn't work for him he says, if you have a guide for this version on how to set it up please post it and we will try that version again. We tried the latest version 2.something but the POL didn't even start )

If you have a guide on how to use 3-d analyze so it works 100% please post it.

If you have a different version of 3-d analyze that works to the best of your knowledge please post it.

If you have a different TNL emulator, for the love of Quenzacotl please post it.

I tried using 3D-Analyze on my GF's machine too, and I could never get it to work.

Depending on what kind of comp he's using, more specifically, what kind of bus ports he has: AGP, PCI, or PCI-E?

You can find some (crappy) cheap graphics card for PCI that support TNL.

Then again, if s/he can't afford a graphics card to play the game, is s/he gonna have the money to pay for the game each month?

I'll have to find that out when he gets home.

Yeah, he is going to get about $12 a month. But no extra money for a graphics card.

It's really quite simple. An upfront cost of $12 is much easier to make then 50, or 100 or more plus $12 for the game. Yes in the end they end up paying more in monthly fees to access FFXI but they didn't have to cough that all up at once.

So they can be a good little girl or boy and save his or her $12/month for a few months and buy a new GPU.

Ok, I've been looking at this since it looks like I'm going to have to go this route as well. At the bottom of this page is some info that might help:
            http://www.opentechsupport.net/forum...c/27685-1.html

Also, don't use the latest 3d Analyze, use a 1.x version as 2.x doesn't support choosing both the exe and dll.

Re: Friend having Hardware TNL problem

I remember using 3D analyze to play the Sims 2 on my family's old Dell PC, and it always worked fine (slow because the PC sucked, but worked nonetheless).

Like I said I never could get 3DA to work with FFXI. Maybe it's because of the reason that Mhurron pointed out: the different versions and what not.

Re: Friend having Hardware TNL problem

If it's AGP or PCI, you may be able to find an old card that would play FFXI for a really low cost. I know of a hardware forum that has a topic about people selling parts old for the cost of shipping. I'm having a hard time finding the specific thread though...

                It's somewhere on:
                http://hardforum.com/index.php
In either the trade or hot deal forum (or subforums).

                Edit:
I'm still looking... I remember it's a massive thread with a ton of pages, but for some reason I can't find the silly thing. Their trade forums get a -ton- of posts a day, so it's easy to lose things.

                  Found it.
                  http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1073074

I don't really see much in the way of video cards on there though. And it seems the topic has started to die in the last month. So guess it's a dead end.

Get a new GPU for 20-40$. Seriously.

my graphics card is as old as the dreamcast, and it supports FFXI. if I were to resell it it would go for about 10-15$.

If you can't afford 20-40$, I'd recommend you save your money and not play an MMORPG.

Yeah, graphics cards that are cheap crappy and yet play FFXI you can find for about $12.00. I mean a GeForce 5 Series and just like 64MB - 128MB should be somewere around $10-$25. I know that card works, used it on a computer at home to play FFXI before upgrading it.
