  • Japanese FFXI all-in-one DVD error

    Hiya folks,

Today I received my new JP ffxi install dvd for my japanese girlfriend.

I put it in my dvd drive and setup playonline, then I try to install FFXI and as soon as it starts to load the first file it gives an error with something like ??? '???? 1' ???

    ???: 1603 error
    ????: ??? Windows installer - ???? MSDN

simple enough the 1603 error is meaning that installshield will close, yet since my windows is not japanese, my g/f cannot read the error either.

Do other people have experienced this error to occur?

I tried the dvd on 3 notebooks and on my desktop pc, all get the same error.

I tried to copy all files to HDD and run setup, still same error.

Disk is clean, brand new. Perhaps disk error?

    grtz

What version of windows do you have?
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

HTTP Error 418 - I'm A Teapot - The resulting entity body MAY be short and stout.

                Hi guys,

I've done some more testing: I updates my ikernel and windows installer and .NET framework etc. no luck though.

Does anyone on the forum have the JP version of the game and could perhaps share his experience?

Can JP game be installed on NA/EU windows or does it need to be JP windows?

sorry for all the questions ^^

Re: Japanese FFXI all-in-one DVD error

It's been a very very long time since we've seen anyone try to import the JP version ever since the NA and EU versions were released, but the notes I see after searching the forum for our pre-NA posts indicate that FFXI is not region-specific with regards to Windows XP.

Note that you'll need any future expansions to match the region you installed under as well (which means you'll need to import those too - and that setting is tied to your account with PlayOnline, NOT your computer). In a few extreme cases, I've heard of people who abandoned characters on existing accounts because they didn't want to import any future expansions.

Pre-Post EDIT: I've located some information on error 1603.

My guess is that you do not have administrative priveleges on the account you are logging into the computer with. If this is the case, follow this link to grant your login administrative priveleges:

Hi Icemage, thanks for your reply.

I have read those posts indeed and I tried cleaning temp folder etc. etc.

I also looked if I had administrator rights and yes I have them.

I have JP and NA version of ffxi on dvd so all expansions on it, and I have the EU version on cd with all expansions seperate.

I contacted POL and they said I needed to contact the JP version of the help centre, yet I cannot speak or type japanese, and my g/f knows little about pc's.

It is strange that when it reads the first file it gives an error, perhaps windows shuts it down cuz it cannot read the JP file?

                    Regards,

                    Asa

Can you upload a screenshot of the exact error you are receiving? That might help diagnose the problem. Aside from that, I don't know of anything else that can help you.

in regional and language setting, advance. Default language for non-unicode program = need to be set to japanese. Anything else shouldn't matter.

To install expansion, your expansion have to match the FFXI version you have installed.

So think twice if JP FFXI is really what you want installed on your machine. You're giving up a lot if you're not fluent japanese speaker here. No support, no english NPC text, some windows application will also start showing japanese menu with this japanese settings.
