Sprout / Guide Beret Problems

I've just picked up the guide and sprout berets, I invited my friend to play with a gold WP, we have just got the items.

We are in a party, we both put on our caps, we try to activate them like a normal item and nothing. Leave them be, nothing, change area, nothing.

Im the long term player, RDM, 62, Guide Beret, my friend is a 22BLU and wears the Sprout.

Suggestions?

I know the Sprout wearer has to be below 50 for the capping to work, but we just cant seem to get them to do anything.

hmm I've got the berets for a long long time but never tried it... From the item's description, try use sprout first and guide second?

Hmm, it's been awhile since I've used my Guide Beret, but as I recall, you open up your usable items menu and click on the Sprout Beret. It should be used just like the exp rings are used, or other enchanted items. It does not seem to work from your normal inventory menu though, so that is something to keep in mind.

Using the Guide Beret should remove your level cap, while the Sprout Beret should restrict your level.

Yup, F1, Items, just like an xp ring, nothing.

The only thing that I cant say for 100% is exactly what my friend is doing :/

OK - just figured it out - I had to use it on the other person, thats, wear it, select it, highlight other person and confirm.

Or, it could be because my friend activated his sprout properly.

What a pain.

How long does the level restriction last? I have a friend who I gave the Gold WP but neither of us ever gone to collect our caps.

He's PLD30, I'm RDM75, and was wondering could I fill in as Refresh Monkey for an entire EXP party, and possibley get Limit Points? As much as I'd miss my Elemental Staves, might actually be fun to be Lv.41 again. No Haste and no Cure IV. haha.

Not sure how long it lasts, we lost the effect when the other cap was used.

Hopefully it should be fun, now that we have it figured out !

I never sat down and timed it, but for a while I was leveling with my roommate. I had a 50ish WHM, and her BLM was in the 30s (because healing in CN wasn't enough fun the first time). I remember that the effect, assuming we didn't zone, lasted more than long enough for it to recharge - at a guess, 45 minutes? After a while, I just got used to looking for the "level cap is about to wear off" lines and getting ready to reapply it.

Of course, half the fun comes from informing your Mithra BLM "/p I'm about to blow my cap - put your hat on." It gets great reactions.

And unless they changed it recently, you don't have to keep the cap on to keep the effect.

Do you gain xp/limit points if you are the one under the lvl cap restriction?
