  • what do you think if...

what if I go ahead and get a HDD with FFXI and CoP on ebay for WAY cheaper than retail value? I mean, I can afford the prices on Ebay now, but I just dont know how reliable it is...

so, do you think its a good idea, or not?

please post whatever you think, bc I wouldnt want to pay 40-70 dollars for this, not work, and cant return it (dont know much about ebay....)

No.... Sony does not support hard drive anymore. You have zero support to go with it. It's hard to upgrade, it's hard to find any expansion, and if your PS2 break down for some reason, you're done.

    don't-get-the-PS2-version.

well, I have notice that there plenty of expansions on ebay and other places bc people are getting the PC, and xbox 360 version so...

so say ps2 is my ONLY option...is this a good idea?

edit:also, walmart has ones left over not used, so they are selling them too; so, they are still accessible...

but again, what if I get on ebay....bad or good idea?

If you go ebay, it may be a user with a banned account meaning you wont be able to use the game as the Reg code is banned and you'd have to buy a pc version just to get a new reg code, assumign teh HD works as well. If you say walmart still has them brand new, then if ps2 is your only option then go the wallmart route, but as Jei has said son have stopped supporting it now, so if you have problems with it, the only likely helpm will be searching the net.

hmm, ok; so the only way to make sure is if the thing is still sealed and new...ok, got it.

so a used one on ebay wouldnt be my best bet....

but if I do find one, thing it'll be ok if I get it?

(also, my comp sucks, it couldnt run FFXI and I dont have the cash for a new one)

            Few things.

For ebay sellers, you can be sure that you will get the PS2 shipped to you. Its condition should be as the sellers advertise on the site for the most cases. It all depends on the seller really. You're a bit at risk, that's for sure. (I ordered a lot of second hand books from ebay but never electric stuff so I'm not really confident about this PS2 >.>)

Assuming the PS2, HDD and FFXI are all working, you have your next thing to worry about, which is setting up your account.

If you already have your own account, that's cool, you can use it to log in from the PS2 right away.

But if you don't have one yet, I don't think the account/CD key that comes with the PS2 will be reliable. It may or may not work.... you're gambling on this one.

Lets say the account that comes with PS2 doesn't work. Then, it means you have to buy another *new* copy of the game for the CD key. This was why I suggested against PS2, because you most likely will get yourself the PC version of the game in this case. Because it's easier to find, and the CD key works everywhere.

Oh, another thing to worry about is the region of the PS2 also. If you're in U.S., make sure the PS2 is also U.S. not JP or EU. Because the CD key/expansion only works if they match region. Basicly, if your PS2 is EU, you can not install US expansion on it, nor can you register.

so basicly, all I got to worry about is the account working...ok, got it. I already have a ps2 (although, another one would be nice)

I do believe people are selling them not bc they dont work, but bc they have next gen and play FFXI on pc or xbox 360. So, I dont think it will be too much of a problem.

thanks for the feedback, all of it.

If it works; yay. if it doesnt, you were right. :p

(probably buy a sealed one anyway, never used...the accound should work right?)

Re: what do you think if...

If there are walmarts in your area that still have the HDD/FFXI set then I would just suggest getting one of those. Sure it may be a bit more expensive, but you're much more protected in the long run.

Makes sense to buy retail if you can.

Why gamble with Ebay just to save a few bucks, when you'll end up having to buy the game again anyway, thereby pushing the total cost up to/around what you would have paid normally for a fresh retail copy.

If you can, a new retail version is your best bet.

Edit: Also don't forget shipping. I remember shipping costs not being overly friendly with Ebay.

lol, its not; heck, the shipping is really the only thing thats expensive...but its gotta be, people sell stuff from around the world...

Ok, I got what yall say, I will save up and try to buy retail; but if I see a good deal on The ebay shop, which sales FFXI, HDD, and CoP together; all sealed; for a good bargain:

I think I'll got with that.

This hasn't been mentioned yet, but if you insist on buying the PS2 version, make sure your PS2 isn't one of the newer "slim" PS2s. You need the older model of PS2 which has the expansion bay to attach the HDD and network expansion units (which plug into each other).

Your PS2 must look like THIS (Image from wikipedia):

...NOT the slim one (also from wikipedia):

yeah, thanks for mentioning that, I do have the older one.

I'm gonna sound retarded saying this but I recieved the Newest oldest model. I mean, I got this ps2 maybe a year and a half after the release and it still runs very smooth.
