The 2007 edition came with a slip to let your friend download the software online, and play Final Fantasy XI. Does anybody know if this download is just the plain game, or the one with all three expansions?

As with the Vana'diel Collectors Edition with only RoZ and CoP, you give the download code to your friend, they go to the website, and it downloads FFXI ONLY. The expansions are not included. To unlock the expansions, your friend must purchase the expansions one by one, or if he's smart, buy the 2007 Edition as well (after he decides he likes the game) and use the registration codes.
Alternatively, you can take your disc to your friend's house and can install FF onto his computer. This is the best idea if your friend does not have a broadband connected internet as the download is approx. 2GB.
