Same with /echo I believe, if not, I'd really like to know, because I get tired of waiting and then remembering I hit another macro.
In my experience, /echo and /recast do not need /wait time to work.

Here's an example of one of my /recast macros (I use this one when farming):

    /recast "Aspir"
    /recast "Drain"
    /recast "Steal"
    /ma "Ice Spikes" <me>

When I activate that macro, I see the timers for all three spells/abilities and the casting for Ice Spikes starts immediately. No wait is needed. Try putting your /recast before your spell/ability in your macro and see if that works better for you.

An x ready in y seconds, X is ready macro is is a bad thing because it requires you to do everything else manually.
Actually the information is helpful. Since Provoke has a hate spike to it, it allows damage dealers to pop a decent amount of damage before the provoke is done. If done right it's extra damage. It's like the godly "Astral Slide" of Magic, being able pop more damage and decipate the hate is very helpful. However you need to know when provoke is ready for that to be of use.

Unless you have two or more mobs on the party or are the healer then really the only other macro you'd need is one popping TP stat (Unless you are cheating and using plug-ins from a windower). I mean the windows have memory cursors which means when you call up your magic list you're cursor will be sitting at the last spot you left it, when you call up your WSs list cursor at the last spot you left it, when you call up abilities again cursor is were you left it. Well as long as you did set it up to use memory cursors, which is a configuration setting in FFXI when you are in the game.

I've hardly had any trouble doing that. What benefits most from macro's is gear swapping, adding information text to an ability you are going to use (especially if it's one of particular usefulness for the party to know), and most useful for mages to setup spell lists of common used spells to access them faster.

Played as NIN and PLD, I had little trouble as NIN getting out which ninjutsu I was going to use by using the magic list instead of a macro. Since the NINs list of ninjutsu isn't as huge as a Mages stuff and not something I have to constantly (Mean every 1-2 cycles) call up, did have to call up stuff a lot to keep aggro but always had time to do it. Then as PLD I made the ability list mind-numbingly easy to shoot through for whatever I needed to pop on myself. My magic abilities were most of the time targeting myself so even though I had cures in macro to heal someone else if it was needed it was hardly used.

It's very possible to play without macroing every small detail. So really what godly thing must you macro so badly that's going to be constantly interferring with a provoke macro notifying the DDs a hate spike is coming up for them to pop better damage on?

Actually it depends on what you do. If you put /recast first and then do /party the party tell will fail, but if you do /party first then the /recast after it works no problem. With about every command in the game as long as you put them to activate in the right order you don't need as many /wait commands, you'll still need some but not as many.

Oh, ok. I don't have /recast in any of my macros with /p, so I did not know that. Thanks, Macht.

Well I was using the /recast and /p as an example. There are many combinations of commands that will work one way but not the other so be aware of that when making the macros.

So, could I put /echo macros in multiple job ability macros and have them all working at the same time? For instance, Dodge and Focus? I know they have long recast times (5:00) so would it even be useful? The reason I ask is that I'm constantly spamming macro's (to myself, thankfully, not the party) because I'm a bad judge of when they're going to be up again. For that matter, assuming with /wait ? that "?" is seconds, could I actually have a /wait 300 in a macro and get a <call10> when it's actually up again, or is there a limit to how long you can /wait?

For that matter, when you activate a macro, does that block you from using other macros if there's a /wait ? in them? Like, can 2 macros be running simultaneously with independant timer's going for both of them?

I'm probably over-complicating things, but I'm always on the lookout for some way to make things more efficient...

/recast "whatever" is already in /echo, noone else will be able to see it when you use it.
There is a limit on /wait and I don't believe it goes up to 300 seconds. Not only that, but if you use any other macro during that /wait, it will end that macro and you won't be giving the notification that its back up.

You might want to check out Logmon. It is a third party chat monitoring program with customizable word detection. If set up right it can help you keep track of tons of things.
