  • Chat Mods?!??!

I was just wondering how people get their spells to come up in the Chat box as like
    [Refresh 0:00]
like its ready to be casted again, I have been wondering this for a long time and I always see it in peoples video on youtube and such, so fill a brother in.
Also just anything like that in general that you can do, I would like to know.

"/recast Refresh" gives you that text. If it's not ready yet it'll show the time til you can cast it again, and if you can't use the spell it shows --:--. It also works on job abilities like Provoke.

It is very helpful in certain macros that have a medium to long recast time. I put it in my Drain and Aspir macros. That way, if I want to know how much longer until I can Aspir again, I can just hit the button to see.

What is the command to cast the ability for a set amount of times?

ex: If I wanted to cast boost 10 times, what is the command to do that so I don't have to macro the boost command over and over.

Without "cheating" you can only do it 3 timeS:

          /ja "Boost" <me>
          /wait 2
          /ja "Boost" <me>
          /wait 2
          /ja "Boost" <me>
          /wait 2

I use cheating in quotes because it's not part of the actual game but a scrpit, and I can't posts those here... not that I'd be much help anyway because I can't even get mine to work.

The Recast tool is actually used in the format of

            /recast "Refresh"

As DRG I have a few Recast timers setup
            /recast "Jump"
            /recast "High Jump"
            etc...

WONDERFUL macro to use. I use it on my DRK's Drain, Aspir, and Sleep. Also good for things like /recast "Sneak Attack"

Another handy chat function is /echo, which will display a message in the chat log to only you (helpful to reduce pt chat spam). I use it in my Boost macro, Provoke macro, and in gear swap macros. To set up an /echo macro, type '/echo yourtexthere,' yourtexthere being whatever reminder or info you want to show up.

              Example:
              /ja "Provoke" <bt>
              /wait 15
              /echo Voke in 15
              /wait 15
              /echo Voke Ready!

Fry: "So I really am important? How I feel when I'm drunk is correct?"
Nibblonian: "Yes, except the Dave Matthews Band doesn't rock."'

                Re: Chat Mods?!??!

/echo and /recast are God sends!

About 70% of my macros have a /recast line in them. My Refresh and Haste macros have a /recast line, and I have a Recast macro. So I know if Haste, Refresh, Gravity, Bind, and Convert are ready again. For DRK in my Absorb-TP, Drain, Aspir, and Stun macros I have a /recast for all of them. So no matter which of the spells I'm always casting, I'll know what's available to me. It also saves me from having to setup a /recast macro when I'm already hurting for macro space.

I use /echo mainly with BST. That way when I'm actually solo I don't see what I wanted printed out, and the error message saying, "Look dumby! You're not in a damn party!" For macros that I use the /wait n in, I just use /recast, so if it's not ready yet, I'll know how soon it will be ready.

Well some stuff is still helpful in the party chat. I actually will use the party chats of when someone has a provoke ready, used to timed when to do a strong attack so that provoke has better potential to pull hate from me. It's a great way to displace hate without taking the reprocussion from it, provided the tank understands it as well and uses provoke right.

No, works on just about anything with a timer. Abilties, Spells, etc...

I agree, Macht, that a lot of times party chat is helpful for information and strategy like that. On my BLM, I often times look for the voke animation before I send off that strong nuke, because simply me knowing that voke is ready doesn't mean the tank will use it! ^^

After hours of parties with things similar to (and these aren't even that bad):

The actual Voke macro of the NIN in my pt last night

                      {Provoke} in 15!!! <call10>
                      {Provoke} is Ready!! <call11>

                      or

The Boost macro of the MNK the day before
                      {Boost} Ready!!
                      {Boost}ing NOW!

my patience starts to wear thin. You can imagine how often that Boost macro text appeared on my screen- yep, every 15 seconds. -_-; Perfect example of a good use for /echo.

The boost one I can definatly understand, but from how the guys did that macro he's just spamming useless info. That boost one provides no beneficial information that the party really needs to know. Hell the MNK himself doesn't need to know that second part as well, only an indicator that Boost is ready. The boost one I can see best for /echo, provoke though even if they put annoying text it's useful party info.

The <call>s in that voke macro were actually much more annoying than the text. At least he didn't have a <call> activate when he actually voked too... ^^

                            a. The information is not that useful, but even more importantly
                            b. it shows they aren't using any other macros

An x ready in y seconds, X is ready macro is is a bad thing because it requires you to do everything else manually.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

I may be wrong on this, but in my experience it seems like even if you use /recast, you still need a /wait before it in your macro, and if you use another macro in the wait time, it doens't actually get to the /recast time. Same with /echo I believe, if not, I'd really like to know, because I get tired of waiting and then remembering I hit another macro.
