help wit error POL-1160 and AOL Dial UP

hey

um i need help, i just baught the game a couple days ago, it came in yesterday.. and i was like WOAH! i installed play online, then ffxi then the expansions, then when i tried to run play on line i get the error code: POL-1160.. i dont know what to do.. i searched it on aol and it said it might be server being down, but like is it only mine, some of my friends are on without problems, so i waited yesterday.. when i woke up today(excited).. i had the same problem.. i've had this since yesterday at 7pm.. um.. could this be due to my aol.. cuz im the only one of my friends who are having a problem and i have aol dial-up, i know aol has alot of problems witht these kinds of things..

if its my firewall, i dont know how to disable it.. i disabled windows firewall.. and i have McAfree active shield? is that a fire wall.. if so how can i disable it..

please any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

You say you have AOL, so do you also have dial-up then? If so, what speed? (hopefully 56k....)

actually i think its lower.. my downloads take hours..

Well you may want to find out...

Anything less than a 56k will make FFXI unplayable.

Well I suppose if you don't have an issue with having an unplayable copy of FFXI... :p

56k+ is required to play FF; broadband is recommended.

i just get an error code when i hit next with the Playonline update...

error code: POL-1160?

network is busy or there are connection problems. Please try again later or verify cables are properly configured..

Yes, you've already said that.....

My guesses are as follows:

1. You have some proxy/firewall issues blocking POL access.
2. Your router is blocking the needed ports (Broadband only)
3. Your internet connection is too slow (56k or better required)

First of all, dial-up or broadband?

Secondly, if you really don't know your own internet speed, I suppose you could try a connection speed test. Google the words "connection speed" and use a few of the bandwidth testers.
