Re: Simple Newb Question
If it's not one of the 6 starting jobs from Final Fantasy I, you have to reach level 30 with one of those jobs to start quests for unlocking the other 12 jobs, such as Corsair. You also need the expansion installed and registered to your account to be able to unlock the 3 jobs added in expansions.http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/gen...igure-out.html

Re: Simple Newb Question
Er, to clarify... since we get this question alot:
1. Any job can be a main job.
2. Any job can be a subjob. You can set a subjob at any time once you've completed either of the subjob quests and are at least lvl 18. This said, not every job makes a good subjob for every main job.
3. All exp gained while playing is directly applied to the main job only, and is saved on the server should you decide to level another job as your main later. This is why you see players with all kinds of numbers for various jobs in their signatures.
4. Subjob is soft-capped at 1/2 your current mainjob level. Meaning if you have 75 levels in WHM, and decide to sub it to your 35th lvl BST, you will be 35 BST/ 17 WHM, (Note that subjob caps are rounded down in cases of .5 levels). Your WHM levels will not go away, so if you decide to reverse this setup, you can easily become a 75 WHM/ 35 BST again.
5. The 6 starter jobs are White Mage, Red Mage, Black Mage, Warrior, Monk, and Thief. These jobs are unlocked from the start. Everything else is considered an advanced job and must be unlocked through a quest recieved after you level to 30 on one of the 6 starter jobs. All jobs that have not been levelled previously start at level 1, this includes newly unlocked advanced jobs.
6. Certain advanced jobs are tied to certain expansion packs. In order to unlock Ninja, Samurai, Summoner, and Dragoon you need to have Rise of the Zilart installed and added to your content IDs. In order to have Corsair, Puppetmaster, and Blue Mage you need to have Treasures of Aht Urgan installed and added. The only advanced jobs you do not need a specific expansion pack installed for are Ranger, Dark Knight, Paladin, Bard and Beast Master.
7. To install an expansion pack, remember that you need to both install the physical files on your hard drive and update them through POL, AS WELL AS registering the content ID code for that expansion pack for your character in the Content ID screen of Play Online. You may have all the files installed for Rise of the Zilart but unless you've registered it for your account, you're not going to be entering Korroloka Tunnel anytime soon.
Hope this helps any other newbies reading this thread too.
