Oh wow really need help here

Ok this might be targeted in other threads, but I've looked for abit and can't seem to cover them:

well, I need to fix my camera angling, I've seen all the options, but is there a menu to change ALL of my keyboards keys? I mean using the number pad for movement seems atrocious.

As well, is there a function to make it to where I have to hit a key to enable chat? Say..'enter' ?

And while I hold my right mouse2 down and try to spin camera angles is all fuddled and doesn't really do anything..


I don't remember the interface being NEAR this bad..I can barely operate it..

Ok to update my troubles:

I've found that my camera is fine, that was an error with windower;

but I can't seem to find an option to bind a key to enable chat..because its making the keyboard useless for shortcuts (ie e, b, v, m, etc)

I guess, didn't know it was illegal, just wanted something to minimize..couldn't understand whats wrong with that.

Regardless, is there an option to set a single key to open the chat interface?

And is there a video menu..not the misc1&2, but an actual video option with gfx tweaks?

well, try set up and play without windower first... so you know what the game really is like. before you try do anything fancier with it.

Yeah I'm running it without windower now..

but I'm still confused..can I or can't I bind a single key to open the chat menu?

Right now keys A-Z all open the chat window and I hate it completely.

look in one of the ingame options. If you set your keyboard to "compact" it will enable wasd style movement and you won't open chat windows with character keys anymore.

"/" also opens the chat. I type out all my commands like /l /tell /p /say /sh

What's wrong with it is that Square doesn't want the game able to be minimized, and has a rule in the terms of service you agree to every time that you play saying that you can't use FFXI with third-party programs. Plenty of people here use it, but the forum rules don't allow you to link to it. Also, if you're using it and getting weird behaviour of the game, Windower is usually the likely suspect.

SE doesnt want the game run minimized for whatever reason. Although it is against the TOS, I understand why people use Windower. The problem is SE doesnt like what addons Windower let people use that DIRECTLY alter the game in a way, like race changing or whatever. It's because of that that SE doesnt like it. To my knowledge the Windower BY ITSELF is not detectable, so if you use it don't tell anyone and just keep it to yourself so noone goes and reports you.

Windower by itself is not detectable, at least not by GMs, however, the reason why it's banned is because PS2 users can't have it.

And sadly, not playing on a PS2 is one of the major reasons one actually needs windower. I've yet to meet a PS2er who's been kicked offline suddenly because Norton or McAfee decided to scan/update on them. It would have been nice if SE had included a windowed mode for the PC version in the first place, like Everquest eventually broke down and implemented. While it may open the door to exploitation, it does make it a darn sight easier to deal with annoying background programs or those emergency intrusion attempts.
