If a friend gets me a world pass for me, do I have to delete my character and create a new one, or is there a way to use my current character in the other world? Also, where do I get world passes in San d'Oria? (Just started the game yesterday) so I can get other people to join me if I cannot change.

world pass can only be used at character creation. So no you can't move your existing character with it.There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

You can change worlds without making a new character during scheduled server migrations, but there are two severe limitations to it. First, you can only go to the servers SE assigns yours to, like last time people from Fairy could only go to Hades. And second, they don't happen very often at all. Once per year, maybe two years depending on how server populations are doing. They say pretty far in advance when they are planning one, but nothing has been said in a long time.
Unless you want to start fresh, I'm afraid you are screwed for the time being
