  • Problems making a living >< (beginner)

Hehe it's my first post here so first i wanna say hi xD
Now on to the actual post:
I'm kinda new to FFXI as I decided to play my own MMO after playing on my brother's WoW account for around 6 months. However I have a huuuuuge problem making any gil. Now before you go tell me to go crafting/farming, I have tried that but for some reason its just not working out. I tried smithing and i ended up spending about 100k and i got to lvl 14.8. Currently I'm trying to remake that amount of gil by mining iron and sything the ingots so i can sell em (for around 50k a stack of fenir). HOWEVER I seem to never really come by any iron ores at all (about 6 ores per 1.5 stacks of picks) , the picks seems to break at an incredible rate as well. At the moment I have around 15k left and i really really wanna invest in something to get me some of that gil or at least boost it up so i can buy more picks ><.

Any ideas would be happily accepted and rewarded with kisses hugs and cookies :D

I guess you could always get yourself a fishing pole and some bait from the AH, maybe you would have some luck with that. Being a newer player myself I usually have to just farm items and sell stacks at the AH. sorry I couldnt be of more help.

      Gil........ *cry*

      Try this:

Take a THF25/RNG12 to East Sarutabaruta and run the following horseshoe route: J-7 -> I-7 -> I-6 -> J-6 -> I-6 -> I-7 -> J-7... killing all the bees and crawlers you see and stealing from a Mandy and using Scavenge -every- 5 minutes. Every 2 kills or so, use Widescan and check for Spiny Spipi.

Beehive Chips drop a -lot-. Silks drop like crap, but you need to kill those Crawlers anyhoo. Saruta Cotton is a very common steal. Scavenge will just give you free stuff. And Spiny Spipi? I Spiny Spipi. He is -sooo- giving..!

So check what Chips, Silk, Saruta Cotton and Mist Silk Cape goes for on your server. 2-3 hours should get you 5 stacks of Chips, 1 stack of Silk, 2 stacks of Cotton and, assuming you claim, a Mist Silk Cape (he really is that generous^^).

By the way, Asurans, I will thank you kindly in advance for forgetting anything you have read here today.... (Oo)
Oh, Warp. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

I can usualy make 30k an hour by going to Giddeus and killing Digger Wasps and other types of bees. Beehive chips drop there so easily. I go as 37WHM/15THF. I can usually get 2 and a half stacks there every hour. I sometimes try and go camp the NM that drops Beast Whistle but I have yet to find him(T_T) and I've seen the Yagudo NM which drops the staff 3 times. ._. Whenever I pass through there it always spawns right behind me. I almost got claim on it once but someone voked it before I finished casting Dia. >.<

Again, I'll point out that there are several guides available in the forums already--some with a good deal of detailed information. I suggest you try this thread:

New Player Guide to Easy Gil

          It's long and very useful.

Collect beehchips, bone chips, seeds and silk. That should get you started.
