  • Food? Where!?

Hey guys, I've heard a lot of you mentioning how food can help to lessen downtime at the earlier levels. As a WHM, what sort of food should I be purchasing? Also, where can I find it, and is it relatively cheap?

    Thanks!

I think the last consensus was Ginger Cookies for early WHM.

correct. you can buy ginger cookies for (relatively) cheap at the bearded hume (iirc) next to the mithran knife thrower if your nation has taken 1st place in conquest.

        Thanks Yyg!

If your nation is not in first place, Ginger Cookies will probably be a few thousand gil per stack off the AH (Food > Meals > Sweets). If that's the case, you might want to go with Meat Jerky instead. That food guide Mhurron posted has links for each food item listed in it, and those links tell you where to get it and how much it costs.

            Awesome, thanks a bunch guys!

Had really no idea food could be so beneficial - maybe it'll make the journey from 5-10 a little smoother.

Now for 1-10 where your on your own and actually hitting things to kill them, you might want to look into Meat Jerky instead and then use the Cookies for when your partying.

Ooh, alrighty. Good thing my earth crystals sold, otherwise I'd be kicking myself for blowing my measly coffers on 4 ginger cookies

                  Re: Food? Where!?

Food is one of the single most beneficial things in this game. For a little perspective on it, check the AH price on Astral Rings sometime. Then check the price on a stack of Apple Pies. Granted that Astral Rings are far more rare than apple pies, and last as long as they're equipped instead of 30 minutes. But people will pay millions of gil for the same stats on a piece of gear that you can get from some of the cheapest food. Food, in general, will boost your stats far more than whatever gear is available. (Of course, you should have both decent gear and food for the best performance.)

Would Ginger cookies be all that beneficial though at his early solo levels when he doesn't have that much MP? Two maybe Three clicks and he should be back at full.
Wouldn't meat jerky help him more for actually having to fight?

Edit: I'm either really slow, or I just didn't see Mhurron's post.

                        Re: Food? Where!?

i'd say 5-10 cookies aren't such a great idea... down time is short anyway... at lvl 10 a taru whm with cookies will take 80 seconds to rest all their mp, without cookies it takes 100 seconds.

I'd say for 5-10 (or personally i'd stick it out til you get cure 2, before i went to party) you'd be better meleeing and just using your mp to reduce downtime. As such melee food is the way forward. Grilled hare meat, jerky are what i'd go for. Grilled hare meat is easy to make... http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/3716
Fire crystal, hare meat, dried majoram. (depends on what city you are from as to where you'd get these), you'll even start to level your cooking skill.

Failing that meat jerky is good http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/3717 can be bought all over the place.

once you start partying thens the time to go for cookies.
p.s if you can, get a pilgrim wand as well. swap it in when you are resting, pop a cookie and your downtime will be so short you won't belive. http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/6983

                        Edit:
i'm also slow and also missed mhurron's post >.<

Always check Somepage to see if there's an NCP that sells what you're looking for. They're often cheaper.
