  • Question about resubbing

I got FFXI this year and cancelled my account in March. I decided to resubscribe in May, but in order to do so, I was charged for the month of April even though my account wasn't active. Is it customary for Square-Enix to charge for all the months that an account was cancelled when somebody wishes to resubscribe?

Also, I only subscribed for one month this time around, planning on giving myself a few weeks to see if I liked the game and wanted to keep my acount going. However, June rolled around and they promptly deactivated my account at 2 AM on June 2nd even though it has only been two weeks since I reactivated. I paid $11.10 and only recieved two weeks. To reactivate, I need to pay an additional $12.95 to cover the month of June.

So my question is this: Am I paying for two months of service and only recieving 1 1/2 months of service? Is there no reimbursement for the two weeks I paid for even though I was not allowed access?

Sorry, I just want to make sure I'm clear about what happened.

Also, theoretically, if somebody were to resubscribe on the 28th on the month, would they be charged again on the 1st?

    Re: Question about resubbing

Did you make sure to activate it after the last payment date was scheduled?

From what I understand; and someone can correct me if I'm wrong; is if you reactivate your account before the payments are put through, you will have to pay for the previous month.

If you did wait until after the payments were due, then I don't know what to tell you.

My understanding is that the -only- time Square will prorate your payment is if your trial period ends in the middle of a billing period. In fact, I'm fairly sure I read that somewhere on thier site, or in the manual.

Anyhow, if you are on your free trial, and it ends mid billing period (what are the chances it will end -exactly- on the end of a billing period after all?) then they will charge you remainder of the month.

However, since that is the ONLY time they prorate your account, if you reactiveate your account mid billing period, you are charged for the entire billing period.

At least... I'm 90% sure thats how it works.

        Re: Question about resubbing

First, SE will charge you the full amount for a month ($12.95) regardless of when you re-subscribed. Thus, it never makes sense to resubscribe/active in the middle of the month.

Second, SE does not bill on 30 day cycles. It bills on a per month basis. Thus, again, it never makes sense to resubscribe/active in the middle of the month because you only actually get to play the remainder of the month before they rebill.

Third, SE will bill for the coming month on the 1st of every month. So June 1st pays for June 1-30. Also any uncollected fees from last month will be billed at this time as well.

Bottom line: Don't resubscribe/reactivate in the middle/end of the month.

        Thanks Yyg!

Ok, that clears up most things. Thanks a lot

Just one more question. So if I don't resubscribe until July 1st, would June be considered an uncollected fee and be charged to me as well, notwithstanding that my account was deactivated on June 2nd?
