I believe that's the one for media correspondents/representatives.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

        Re: What is this?

        That's the "Trial Adventurer" sign.

Used for things like temporary accounts, like trying it out at a netcafe. From what I remember, it's because that's the symbol used for driver's ed in japan.

        here, found a link : http://weyr.us/raven/fficons.html

          Re: What is this?

Thanx all for the answers. I kinda thought it was someone from any idea "checking" out the game.

Feba, thanx for that link as well. It's pretty cool.

            Re: What is this?

I once had a link to a page that listed all of the different icons, but that was too long ago.

I am with Ellipses. I think it's a demo thing, like at conventions and cafes and the like.

                Re: What is this?

It's for media representatives and other special guests.

I got to hang out with one such "player" a few years ago on the last day of the North American FFXI Beta, nice guy who went by the name of Takugyagya. He had level 40 in every job with some pretty nice gear too. He was taking in-game photos for promotional material.

As a matter of fact, if you by any chance own the PS2 version of FFXI, the back side of the box has a number of adventurers fighting what looks like a Sea Monk.

It's not a Sea Monk - it's the Sea Horror from the Ferry. It popped up as we were taking Takugyagya on a tour of Vana'diel via the Mhaura-Selbina ferry, and that's myself and some friends trying (and failing) to kill it. He must have taken that picture very early on in the battle, but it was a pleasant surprise for all of us when we received our complimentary copies of the PS2 version.

It is the symbol for a New Driver in Japan.
