i can't believe i can't find find an answer for this on my own. how do i take screen shots (on the pc) in FFXI? and when i do, how do i access them afterward? i wish i knew this before; i had a rather disheartening conversation with a botter about botters that i thought fit to record somehow.

Re: screen shots for dummies?
There should be a print screen button on your computer. Before you do it though, you need to press scroll lock so that no windows are on your screen.
The directory is C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\pub\home01\open\ScreenShots\FinalFantasyXI

Re: screen shots for dummies?
If you're looking to take screen shots of the chat log, it's either fraps (www.fraps.com) or a similar program, or the Print Screen button like Mog said. The Print Screen button doesn't save them, though, it holds one at a time on the clipboard, so you have to shut FFXI down and paste it somewhere, like Paint, then save that. The game's built-in screenshot mechanism won't take shots of chat logs.Ellipses on Fenrir
There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

Re: screen shots for dummies?
ahh, good. i had been pressing the 'print screen' button, but i didn't get any confirmation if that was successful. i didn't think the screenshots would be saved to a completely different directory than what i installed the game to. thank you, Mog.
edit~ didn't see Ellipses' post before i did ... and it looks like i saved anything then. damn. i'll look into that fraps, then.

Re: screen shots for dummies?
No idea! Did it come with a manual?
Actually, I have an idea. If it's like the PS2, there's probably the same keyboard binding set up by default. Press Scroll Lock to get rid of the on-screen windows, then Print Screen to take the shot. Don't know how you'd take one with the 360 controller, though.Ellipses on Fenrir

Re: screen shots for dummies?
Nope, no macroing screenshots. There should be a section in the manual that lists what each button/key on the controller and keyboard do by default. Little tables with the button/key on the left and its function on the right. (If the 360 manual doesn't have this section, I'm shocked and dismayed.) Somewhere in there is something like "hide windows" or "hide interface" or something, and then there should be one for taking screenshots.
On the PS2, you push Select to hide windows, then hold L2 to put up the copyright info and press L1 to take a shot. Something like that anyway. I'd imagine it's similar on the 360 controller, but without a manual, I don't really know.
You could always look in your keyboard config screen to see what keyboard keys are set to each of those functions. Or just try the defaults. The chat log says "Screenshot saved" if it worked.Ellipses on Fenrir
