About extra characters server

A really quick question: are all extra characters put on the same server as the first or am I just lucky to get Ifrit 3 times in a row?

it will be put on the same server, yes. Or you can use world pass to get on other world.

It took me forever to realize this, back when I first started playing the game. I kept buying myself world passes.

Thanks, that's what I thought. (I couldn't be that lucky ).
So the server is tied more to the your ID then to the characters.

Using a worldpass lets you create a character on a certain server but what about ones created after that. I'm guessing you would need a world pass for each new character too.

Even the ones AFTER the World Pass ID will land in the server the FIRST character is in...

Has someone tested this? I've never had characters on multiple servers, but according to PlayOnline, once you do have them on more than one server, you get to pick:

Question: How does FINAL FANTASY XI decide which World I will play in?

Answer: Unless you use a World Pass, the World is decided randomly when you create your character. However, if you have already created a character, any additional ones you create will appear in the same World as the first (unless you use a World Pass to specify otherwise). If you already have characters in different Worlds, you may specify one of those Worlds when you create a new character. However, if you don't specify a World, the new character will be placed in the World that appears to the lower left of the Select Character screen when you log in. If you wish to specify a world other than one in which you already have a character, you will need to first obtain a World Pass.
