  • IME trouble... Probably asked before.

    Hi. ^^ I'm new here. Today I made the big jump from NA to JP version and I have a pretty good grasp of how the IME in FFXI works but...

    It's stuck in English text mode, and I can't switch to hiragana no matter what I push. (alt + ~) It's very similar to problems I had with the windower IME, and I was hoping this wouldn't be the case if I was using the real deal. ; ;

    ANY help would be appreciated. Again, I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I used the forum search and didn't find anything really relevant.

    Thanks.

    Is your IME bar still in EN? Have you tried the other shortcuts (ctrl+~, etc.)?

      Stuck in this position. Maybe I just don't know IME as well as I thought I did... Tried everything I know of... but I could just be missing something simple so if you have any suggestions please post. ; ;

        Hmm I don't know what setting you have. So I'll start from scratch.

        In your bottom right corner of window XP, you should see [En] icon. If not, you have to turn it on. Open upcontrol panel >regional and language options. There are a couple things you will to check here so leave it open.

        In the Languages tab. you want to make sure the 2 options are ticked. Click Apply and it may ask for Windows XP CD.

        Next, click Details. This opens up text services and input.

        In the Settings, you want to have Japaense IME Standard installed.
        Click Add, choose Input = Japanese.

        You might want to set the default input language to Japanese IME too, so you don't have to worry about using [En] when you're in FFXI. Personally, I delete the US input since japanese can input english on it's own already.

        Next step, click Language Bar in the buttom, tick "Show language icon in desktop" and "Show addition icons in language bar"

        Now we're done with this windows. Go back to Regional and Language options window.
        Go to Advanced tab. And choose Japanese to be your Default Language for non-unicode program.
        Doing this will require a restart. And keep in mind that some applications might show japanese interface because of this.

        Once all of the above is done, you will see a a little language icon at the buttom right corner of your windows XP. I suggest you test it out on Notepad.

        The laguage icon you can switch around [En] and [Jp] by holding down left ALT and press left SHIFT.

        Once the icon is [Jp], hold down left ALT and press ` (same key as ~) to switch between english mode and japanese mode.

        Double Post Edited:
        oh and if you're using windower, make sure to set the language to japanese too. in windower.ini.

        #Version may be NA, JP, or EU
