Is there Player Killing in this game?
IS there a certain area for it, or something???
Maybe, a certain level you need to be in order to PK???

    Re: PKing

You can't directly attack another player, except while you're both participating in Ballista or Brenner, which are organized team games. The only way to kill another player outside of those games is MPK (Monster Player Kill, making monsters kill other players), which is getting harder and harder with recent patches.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

Let me add that MPKing someone is considered reason enough to get you banned from the game.

      So don't do it.

      Double Post Edited:
Not to mention it's in very ill taste to do so.

Yeah, I guess that kind of made it sound like I'm pro-MPK, which is so not the case. MPK is strictly for chumps. For great clarity: Luckily, it's getting harder and harder with recent patches.

They actually have done a good job of making it harder to be a jerk to other players. It's better for those of us who were always reluctant to zone stuff for fear of accidentally MPKing other players. I think they can stop now, though. I don't think the BST job can handle any more adjustment.

            Avhmia uses Charm.
The Bigclaw is now under Avhmia's control.
Avhmia's ears begin to squirt blood.
            Avhmia looses 100exp.
Okay, so I'm just a pinch annoyed at the little mob-dies-but-doesn't-give-experience bug that's been around since the last update. >;D

All in all, they've done some really great things. It's sad that they had to make the changes they did, but the whole griefing thing was really getting out of hand for a while, in certain places.

            What are Ballista and Brenner?
They're organized team games in which groups of players compete for titles, experience, and stuff like that. I've never done Brenner, but Ballista is a total blast to play.

              Re: PKing

In short, Ballista and Brenner are forms of PvP that include player killing as well as sports like elements. In Ballista for example, you dig up a rock with a shovel and take it to a goal guarded by the enemy and try and score a point before they kill you. In the case of Ballista you play in zones that are public, and others can watch you play by showing up; though they can't interfere. I believe you are also immune to mobs agroing you while you are playing. There are also "private" zone which are essentially duplicate zones where there are no random strangers wandering by etc.

The way all the changes have screwed with BST is very disappointing. "Disappointing" being the radio edit of my opinion. Hopefully the job balance update will do something to tip the scales back a bit. (And I would hope they do something about the XP glitch before then, but I'm not holding my breath.)

While that seems like alot of fun...
PKing is a pretty large part of any other MMO...
                  So...why not FFXI?
                  Kinda wierd...

There should at least be an Arena, or something...

Collusium is slated for opening in a few months... but what -exactly- that involves we're not sure yet. Who knows. Maybe there will be an option for 1:1 duels.

I honestly don't mind the despawn thing anymore. I've adapted, and to be honest, not having to convert pets anymore is probably the biggest boost the BST job has ever had... The exp thing is annoying, though. It's incredibly frustrating to work your little rear off killing some big nasty only to get zip for your trouble.

It's really just part of the story. Vana'diel is a world torn apart by violence and war. The characters we play are the first generation born after the Great War that killed so many people. It was a war so devastating, that the four nations came together (however begrudgingly) and set aside their differences just to survive. Their children, who are our characters, live in a world where there is no safety beyond the city walls. Though the war is over, beastmen still terrorize any and all who stray too far. The adventurers train themselves in ancient discipline, venturing out in to that chaos seeking glory and wealth, fighting to bring peace and safety to everyone. Generally speaking, they would have no reason to want to go around killing one another. Another adventurer is a potential friend and ally, not a threat. PKing wouldn't fit.

Well, the game is designed around cooperative team play, not killling each other and makes enemies. Balista and Brenner are considered a form a sports. No bad feelings after the match.

                          Re: PKing

I don't think SE has explicitly stated why they don't have PKing, but the general consensus is because this game is so much more focused on cooperative play than on competition. Compared to other MMOs, FFXI is a lot further toward "all in good fun," which is why the limited PvP it does have is structured as (really fun) games. It's all about working together and building tightknit groups. In theory, anyway. PK just wouldn't add anything to that experience.

Well, of course there are going to be bad seeds. If SE had allowed open PK, though, lots of people would engage in it and it would alter the game in ways they didn't want. Vana'diel is supposed to feel like this massive struggle by the enlightened races against the forces of chaos and despair. It would be hard to maintain that mood if ever Tom, Dick, and Dark Knight was running around pwning n00bs.
