If you're worrying about surviving, then what the hell are you doing playing FFXI?

There's tons of other things that Americans do. I don't really mind paying 2 to 3 bucks a gallon for gas. I drive a car, not an Suv. In Europe, I believe the price is over 5 dollars a gallon USD. Hence, I feel lucky.

Now, you're complaining about paying 12 dollars a year, for 80 extra spaces, to hold shit, and save a lot of time. Doesn't seem reasonable to me.

Gas is dropping in price, as of this week. It was 3.02 last week in York, Pennsylvania. Price now is about 2.80, and is slipping.

Oil is not an issue at the moment. The supply isn't dwindling out. The real problem is the number of active oil refineries that service US companies. Many refineries were damaged with the two hurricaines that hit the Gulf Coast. They're not pushing out anywhere near the same numbers of gallons of automobile ready Gasoline that they were pre-Katrina. Also, a lot of refineries in the Middle East have incurred extra-security costs because of recent terrorism to oil by Militants.

But that's going on a rant.

If there's something you don't like about this game, let it be paying $1 a month extra per character, or PKing, then you need to let it go. SE is a business, and Business leaders have an order they follow:

Their Pockets -> Company Profits -> Large Group of Customers -> Smaller group of customers.

That's what business leaders care about.

It's not neccessary for survival in most places however. Especially in major cities where a car is mostly a convenience.

Woah. I'm not worried about surviving...
Someone just compared FFXI to Gas prices(how they got there I will never know).

            Anyway.
My original point was that I shouldn't have to play the game for hours on end to get a feature accessed that I am already paying $13/month for.

I've been watching your posts for awhile, this isn't meant as a flame(though I already see how it could be considered one and probably shouldn't even go here, but I'm going to risk it), but you need to learn how to pick up on analogies. You NEVER understand them.(Or at least claim not!)

Anywho, if you want me to explain it to you, send me a PM. It might take awhile to drill it in and I don't want to clutter the forums with that.

But, what you said earlier brought the topic astray...
As paying an extra dollar for another account isn't what I was talking about at the time.

                    @ Caspian
                    It's not the money, really.
                    It's the principle.
FFXI has been out for 4 years, right?
SE has made way more than enough(especially with such a large playerbase) to decrease the p2p amount at least a little.
And, asking people to pay an extra dollar a month is rediculous...
You might argue that $1 isn't alot...And, I would argue the same thing...$1 isn't alot...So why even charge it?
They've actually slightly raised the monthly fee in Japan. It used to be about 1280 yen for the first ID, plus 100 yen for each extra one, and now it's just over 1300 yen for the first ID and 105 yen per additional ID.

Inventory space is limited in almost every MMORPG. FFXI at least offers means to expand the space you have, but you either invest the time to earn them in the game, or you pay the extra fee to get 80 slots immediately by creating an extra character. They do this because they didn't really intend people to make multiple characters, as any character can do every job in the game, and the only thing that isn't changable about your character is race and gender. They have a limited number of characters that can be registered to each server, as shown by the 360 beta test, so they discourage frivilous character creation by having a fee for it.

You're not really justified in saying what Square "should" provide you as far as storage space in the game. They made the game and designed it to last like it should. They also know the limitations of the hardware they are working with, and have stated multiple times that they can't increase or improve various things because the PS2 doesn't have enough power or memory to let them implement the feature, and doing so would make the game incompatible with that platform, which a large percentage of their customer base primarily plays on.

really, all you're paying for with the extra one dollar is the slave labor that goes into creating the boxes (most likely somewhere in either china or africa). that one dollar goes a long way! (just kidding)

Runniing back onto the fuel topic - gas over in UK is over £5 per gallon, which works out to pushing close to $10 a gallon... But exchange rate helps us, FF is only £9 a month

Hey, the dollar's not that weak ;D

                                It's more like $17 o.o;

I dunno, I have 4 mules on my main account and I kept my husband's account after he quit the game, because I couldn't bear to see his 80+ cooking skill go down the drain... So I pay almost $30 a month on FFXI... which, when I say it out loud, sounds kinda sad. XD
