Farming

Just have a small question about farming items...

As I have progressed...
When I kill much lower-leveled creatures...
The only text I get on my screen is that I defeated the creature.

I assume this means no XP...
Does this also mean it's impossible to farm items from them, as well?

The reason I ask...
I am skilling in Cullinary...
And, after reading throught the items to make through Skill Progression...
I found that I need Hare Meat to make Meat Balls...
But, this doesn't come until Skill 31 in Cooking....
And by then, I'll be pretty high in RDM and/or WAR.

You can't get crystals or beastmen seals when killing mobs that don't give you experience anymore, but they still drop their other items normally.

Ah. But, I'll still be able to get Hide and Meat from the Rabbits and Hares?

You sure do...
But, those will be the same Mobs that take you 1 hit to kill...
Which is a waste of time...Unless you're Farming for a certain drop.

When you get to high levels, depending on your job of course, many things that are too low level to give you experience can still own you.

ITs better to go farming as a THF because they have a higher drop rate.

Even if that were true, which I don't believe it is, in the 3-4 minutes you spend killing an IT plus the extra 3-4 minutes you spend healing, you could've killed 10 TW/EP. So the drop rate from ITs would have to be 10x better for it to be worth it. That's assuming you can even kill ITs and not counting the risk of death.

Edit: Obviously totally misunderstood you. Funny how just having that T capitalized changes the sentence entirely. Anyway, yeah. Treasure Hunter for thf at level 15 improves item drop rates. If you can sub thf at level 15 when you farm, that makes things go faster.

Yeah i meant that it is better to farm as a thf.lol. I would never advise farming IT's because they are not worth the trouble plus i dont think its possible to kill one on your own.^^

Well, some jobs can kill IT's solo, but it's hard. RDM/NIN with Utsusemi:Ni can solo ITs pretty well, but I've yet to try it (since, ahem, my RDM is only 50). I've heard of people soloing ITs before, but for farming ... waste of time. The whole point is to make as much gil as possible in a short period of time. Killing ITs ... which take a good chunk of time just to kill, nevermind the downtime ... just not worth it if you're farming. If you're soloing for xp, well then that's a different story.

And speaking of THF and Treasure Hunter, well, that's still on my to-do list. I seriously need to get that job leveled.

Get your thf up to 15 min. then you get the ability Treasure hunter, as hare meat drop from hare in taonghi canyon and La Theine plataeu, if you sub theif to any +30 job then treasure hunter will increase the drop rate of anything you farm no matter what level. I use it to farm in tarhongi by subbing it to my 31 war when fighting bees to get bee hive chips for alchemy to synth beewax. yes I don't get any xp, but I spend less time farming the items I need for crafting as the drop rate has increased.

What I will say and you could probably call it some type of eticate (can't spell it) is that if you are farming in a low level zon i.e. Ronfare, Gustaberg etc. and there are alot of low level players trying to get to lvl 10, don't steal all the mobs that they can only fight.

I was lvling Drk from 5-9 on Saturday in Gustaberg on vomp hill, a lvl 56 Ranger/theif was farming everything and i couldn't lvl up there because he kept stealing all the mobs with his bow 1 shotting and training many together, there were 3 of us trying to level our jobs and there was nothing to level on because of this ranger, we asked if you could farm else where as we need to level and all we got was abuse. Gm's were not bothered and said its not against the TOA to do and "well look into the abuse", nothing was mentioned to us and the ranger was still farming an hour later.

Although low level areas have great synthing items to farm, just please remember who needs to level in these zones and if there are lots of low levels about, please go to another zone you can get the items, remeber you were having to level in these areas at one point and how would you like it?

Good point, Jarre. That is something that pisses me off, actually, because there's so many different mobs of the same family in different areas, and for someone that high of a level, it would have been just as easy for him to farm in Konstact Highlands (sp) or Dangruf Wadi.
