An extra character that you put extra items on that they have to carry around/have in safe/have in storage instead of holding them on your main character.

Hence "mule"

You can create up to 8 characters on a single ID and up 16 total per account. You cannot be logged in with more then 1 character at a time which means to send and recieve items you have to log and relog between your characters (hence: muling).

There are some who use mules for fishing and crafting, though I don't see why you wouldn't just use your main character for that ...

Also, some will send items they don't need to their mule and have the mule operate a bazaar. If you see people sitting around town with names like "Myslave" or "Buymystuffplz" (or something like that), they're just bazaar mules trying to sell off some of the main character's useless/crafted/fished items for some extra gil while the player is away or asleep. I will sometimes operate an all-night bazzar with one of my mules, in hopes to make a bit of extra gil. Usually, though, the AH is sufficient for me to sell stuff.

One reason would be your main character can't have two crafts at 100. For me, cooking on my mule gives me a little break from interacting with anybody (no LS or anything on him), if I'm in a bad mood or something.

I don't even call them mules. I call them all-purpose-80 slot storage. I got 16 of them between two accounts. 1280 slots ftw.

Yep, I have 3 right now. Think I'm going to make another one while the feast of swords is still going on to make it easier to get to Jeuno. I'm a pack rat and hate selling off equipment from other jobs, so it just goes straight to mules.

Thread jack warining: Says you! I can buy a 6-pack of ramen for $1. Local stores let me buy a TV dinner (are they still called that?) for $1 too. Also, that's a double cheeseburger from McD! Ok, that's not a meal, but it's cheap!!

On topic: I have 2 mules. But with the new Mog Locker, I find myself in the unusual position of having a lot of empty space now. Locker+50 ftw.
