Re: How to get Sub job
There are two quests that allow you to get a subjob; one is found in Selbina, and the other in Mhaura.
First off, you have to be level 18 before you can get the quest. Secondly, the NPCs are Isacio in Selbina, and Vera in Mhaura.
For the one in Selbina, the NPC asks you for a Damselfly Worm, a Crab Apron, and a Magicked Skull. In Mhaura, you're asked to collect a Wild Rabbit Tail, a Cup of Dhalmel Saliva, and a Bloody Robe.
I recommend you do the one in Selbina. You'll fight all of the mobs that drop these over the course of leveling from 10-20, so by the time you leave the dunes, you'll have your stuff ready to do the quest.

Re: How to get Sub job
One thing that is important to know is what mobs drop which items.
Crab Apron >> Snipper
Damesfly Worm >> Damesfly
Magicked Skull >> Ghoul
I've listed them in order of how difficult these items are to obtain. The Crab Apron being the easiest due to the fact that you will begin fighting Snippers in Valkurm Dunes at level 14 and usually parties will level off of them even towards level 20. So you shouldn't have to worry about obtaining a Crab Apron too much.
The Damesfly Worm is slightly harder to obtain. This is mainly due to the fact that not many parties choose to fight Damesflies, but I will gurantee that you will fight them at least once while in Valkurm Dunes leveling. The drop is also a little more uncommon than the Crab Apron, but it isn't too bad.
Now the Magicked Skull is the hardest of all three in my opinion. This is most likely because of the fact that Ghouls only spawn at night in Valkurm Dunes. After 4:00 they despawn, but by that time they are very difficult to find. Since many parties are looking for Ghouls to get their members the skulls. As well as people who have come back at level 18-20 or so with a higher level friend to help kill Ghouls for a skull. The sad thing is I can't gurantee that you will get a Magicked Skull in Valkurm Dunes simply because they're so rare. Although you still shouldn't rule out the possibility. So if your party is in the right level range, I forget which, you should ask the puller to pull a Ghoul whenever they see one.
There is another alternative to obtaining the Magicked Skull. It is slightly out of the way and takes some time, but it is a lot easier to obtain with this different method I'm about to explain. Your other alternative is getting a party preferably 18-20 and go to Gugsen Mines, which can be reached by going to the point (L-7) in Konschtat Highlands. Once in Gusgen you can take the tunnel down to the first fork in the mines. From there the best way to go is left and go down that tunnel and hunt for Ghouls. This I would suggest for people without a map of the mines. It's a simple route to remember and take back to the mines exit.
An alternative to that is getting help from other higher level players. Usually these players would be 30+, but even that can be pretty risky in Gusgen Mines. So to feel comfortable I suggest level 40+, but it isn't the bare minimum, but for duoing purposes that is probably the safest level to have duoing it with a level 18-20. Although duoing purposes can be a little annoying because of the inevitable down time unless you are a Whitemage. I would recommend your helper being some sort of melee. Even a Paladin at level 40 and slightly higher will have a little downtime while soloing Ghouls in Gusgen Mines. That is from my own experience of helping newbies obtain their subjob items.
I hope you find that info useful and wish you luck on obtaining your subjob items.Last edited by Deuciont; 05-07-2006, 05:29 AM.Nation: San d'Oria, Rank 6

Re: How to get Sub job
The other quest to obtain a subjob is given by the NPC Vera, in the town of Mhaura. You'll need:
Wild Rabbit Tail from Mighty Rarab
Cup of Dhalmel Saliva from Bull Dhalmel
Bloody Robe from a Bogy
Mighty Rarab and Bull Dhalmel can be found in Buburimu Peninsula.
Bogy can be found in Buburimu Peninsula and Valkurm Dunes at night (20:00 to 04:00).
The first two items are relatively easy, but the Bogy is challenging for anyone below level 30 - if you can convince a high level player to help you with this, it can be accomplished in less than an hour usually.

Re: How to get Sub job
It's really called a "support job" though the shorthand people use for it is sub job. Basically, it is a secondary job, which supports your main job. You only get exp for the job which is set as your main job, however you can switch you main job and support job as many times as you want without negative consequences. E.g. you can have multiple jobs at lv75, the lv cap, on one character, and switch between them at will in your "mog house" or at specific "nomad moogles" in a few areas. Subjob is capped at 1/2 the lv of your main job, but if your subjob is lower lv than 1/2 your main, it will stay at that lv rather than cap at 1/2 your main. You get extra stats, spells and abilities from a subjob, so it is usually best to pick one that compliments your main. Whm for example would sub blm for bonuses to mage stats including mp rather than mnk. Some blm spells you can access subbed are rather nice as well such as escape or tractor.Calin - Ragnarok

Job levels are tracked separately, so you can be level 75 at Black Mage, but only level 1 in Thief. If you choose to switch to your Thief job, then you're back at level 1 until you gain some experience at that job; but if you switch back to Black Mage you'll be back at level 75.
At level 18, you can attempt the above-described quests to activate the ability to attach a "subjob" to your character. A subjob can be selected from any job that is not currently selected as your main job, but is treated as half of your current job's level, o it's real level, whichever is lower.
So for instance, if I wanted to play as my level 75 Bard, I can attach my level 75 White Mage job as a subjob, but it will be treated as level 37 when used as a subjob in this case, leaving me as a Level 75 Bard/Level 37 White Mage. If I chose to attach my Thief subjob instead, I'd be a Level 75 Bard/Level 15 Thief instead.
You gain access to any spells and job abilities of your subjob, up to its current (capped) level, so as a BRD75/WHM37 I can cast Teleport-Mea, which is a level 36 White Mage spell, but I can't cast Raise II, which is a level 56 White Mage spell.

Also, I may have missed it, but you can find Snippers, Ghouls, and Bogys several places, you don't have to get them in dunes/bubu. However, Damselflys, Bull Dhamels, and Mighty Rarabs are unique to their zones, so you'll have to get them there.

Re: How to get Sub job
I found that my party only got one Rarab Tail drop while in a party killing Rarabs for 3 hours+.
Perhaps I just wasn't paying attention, but it DOES seem rarer than a crab apron.
Also, for the magicked skull, try asking a 17-18 Party you get invited to to go to gob hill. At night time, ask if Ghouls can be pulled.
Good luck and have fun.

Okay. I think I understand that part...
But, I see alot of people who have Level Stats for MORE than 2 classes...
Meaning they have more than 1 Main Job and 1 Support Job...
Is the Quest talked about in this thread needed if you're just switching to another Job?
And, what's the difference between a Support Job and an "extra Job"???

Re: How to get Sub job
You are allowed to change jobs at will, and level any job you please. Once you unlock your Support Job ability, you can pick any of the 18 jobs that you have unlocked as your Main and one as your Sub. Let's say I create a character and level Warrior to 30, then I level Monk to 15 and let's say I level Thief to 15.
I can set Warrior as my main, and Monk as my Support.... or if I wanted to, I could set Thief as my main and Warrior as my Support.... or, I could, once I get Lv30, go out and get... say, the Ninja Extra Job Quest so taht I may become a Ninja.
When you gain experience, only your MAIN job gains experience. Your Support job does not. So if I were a WAR30/MNK15, I join a party, I get experience points on my Warrior, and it will level. Let's say I gained 2 levels, and I became a WAR32/MNK15.... oh no! My Support Job is one level behind! That won't do... so I switch them and become a MNK15/WAR07 so that I can gain levels on my MNK. Let's say I bring MNK to 20.
Then I can switch back to being a WAR32/MNK16. I can keep going this way until Lv42 where I will be a WAR42/MNK20. Then I need to stop and level my Support job again.

Double Post Edited:
And no, you can switch jobs at any time without completing any quests. All you need to do is walk back to your moghouse and switch your Main Job. Support Job's button will be greyed out becuase you haven't unlocked that ability yet.
And note that you will seea bunch of "???s" in the Select Job screen. Those are Extra Jobs, jobs you need to do a quest to unlock. Jobs like Ninja, Samurai, Summoner, Blue Mage, Corsair, Puppetmaster, Beastmaster, Dragoon, Dark Knight, Ranger, Bard, Paladin. For these quests, you must be Lv30 in any job to start these. Most of which you will need help to complete.
The jobs you can Unlock at Lv30 solo:
Dark Knight
Summoner
Blue Mage (requires Aht Urhgan)
Corsair (Aht Urhgan)
Puppetmaster (Aht Urhgan)
Beastmaster
Bard
Ranger
Paladin (very dangerous to solo at Lv30, but can be done)
You will need help with:
Samurai (two NMs you need to kill, cannot be solo'd at 30.)
Ninja (3 leech NMs you need to kill)
Dragoon (BCNM that cannot be solo'd at 30)

Re: How to get Sub job
Wow. Thanks, Xylia.
That explains alot.
=3
Another question...
I'm a Warrior...I have no spells...No MP...
But, I want to switch to a magic-based Job.
Once I switch my class...
Will I keep my Warrior abilities?
And, if I switch BACK to Warrior...Will I keep my MP and the Spells I learn as a magic-user?
