forgive me, but i am unable to find my answer somewhere else.

i'd like to know how it may be possible to play more than one character at a time from the same account.

you see, my brother and i have an interest in playing ffxi, though his is mild and mine is great. i've bought a copy, and will install it and set up to play when my semester is over. we agreed to share the cost of the monthly subscription for one account. though, i know at one point there will be a time that we'd want to play ffxi at the same time, either with each other for for our own thing.

with another mmorpg i have played, it can be possible to play two characters from the same account at the same time, when a second cd key is registered to the account. could a similar solution could be possible for me?

PlayOnline allows only one login at a time per account, so no, you'd need separate accounts to play simultaneously. PlayOnline only allows registration of a single key per account per product (FFXI, Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urghan, Tetra Master).

i see. though ... that raises the question if we can use the same perchased copy on two different computers, if they have been registered for two separate accounts. if my brother wanted to play ffxi on a different computer than i with his own account, will he be able to with installing from my game disks?

yes you can install it on a different computer using one set of CDs. However, you'll still need 2 copies of the game to play at the same time so he would have his own CDs anyway.

acually, all he would need is his own cd key., which comes with a new copy of the game. BUT, you can install on two different pcs with one copy of the game, his copy of the game would just serve as a cd key.

The keys are registered to the account, not to the computer - all FFXI installation disks are completely identical. I just recently installed FFXI on my new computer, and it never asked me to input any registration codes since I had everything except ToAU already registered to my account.

Of course, you do need to purchase a new copy of the game to get a new set of codes.

The keys are registered to the account, not to the computer - all FFXI installation disks are completely identical. I just recently installed FFXI on my new computer, and it never asked me to input any registration codes since I had everything except ToAU already registered to my account.

Of course, you do need to purchase a new copy of the game to get a new set of codes.

This of course changes when cross-platform becomes an issue (Xbox, PS2 and PC) Also when region comes into play (EU, NA and JP) So caveat emptor: when purchasing, make sure you have the right product in hand before opening the packaging.
