Because we have this system at home that counts how much traffic you have, and lately it has skyrocketed and I would wanna know if it's caused by FFXI.
Edit: I'm sorry if I'm vague or if this sounds weird but I need to know and this is the best way I can describe it. >.<

Special thanks to Kagerou for the "colorgift" sig.
FFXI uses minimal bandwidth even at maximum capacity in heavy traffic zones. The netcoding is very efficient.
If you're seeing severe network traffic increases, it's more likely that your bandwidth usage increased because of a recent installation of a data-streaming application, such as a BitTorrent client like Azureus or uTorrent, a P2P file sharing client like LimeWire, streaming live audio/video feeds such as on news sites or radio station sites, or perhaps an audio/visual transmittal program such as TeamSpeak or Ventrilo.
So far as I can tell by my own network monitoring, updating FFXI doesn't throttle bandwidth. Playing however is another matter, and so far as I can tell its throttled at around dialup speeds. Running 6 copies of FFXI simultaneously off one cable connection doesn't even put a dent in my network usage.

I don't know. There's something going on with how the data is being handled by the router. I know I am not in the minority of multiple-accounts over a router when I say that on occassion, I'm seeing a marked increase in the number of times one of the accounts online gets d/c but none of the other accounts are affected.
In other words, I can d/c on my PS2, but my PC is still connected and doesn't experience lag. About 15 minutes later, it then reverses as the PC gets into trouble but my PS2 is fine.
Maybe SE doesn't like multiple accounts coming from one IP address. They think we're RMT or something >_>
