    Use the forum search function.

Also, you need the install discs for both versions of PlayOnline Viewer, and one of the versions of FFXI to do the install that way. The JP version is useless to you if you don't understand how to input Japanese text, but there are guides for that on this site if you search for them.

why are you installing both version? For IME?

        Re: JP + US version

        thanks for the reply.

Thing is, I can read gana , kana and kanji, but i am not very fluent. So i was hoping i could use US version for missions and JP version for exp.

Ive quit before CoP and had a 73 samurai, my friends wanted to go back to FFXI so i just tagged along.

while i was playing zilart, I had full version of JP FFXI and a single US POL Disc, somehow we found a way to install the US FFXI and let it convert to entire JP FFXI into US version , in 2 seperate folders. but for the life of me i cannot remember how.

        any tips? thanks in advance.

          1. there are IME plug in for windower. Which enables NA version of the game to input japanese just like japanese version.

but 2. the windower can go broken when SE puts in big patches, like the patch yesterday.

If you don't mind waiting for Cliff to fix all windowers' plug ins, which usually only take a day or two, you really have no reason to install japanese version.

If you want to know what windower im talking about, google for "azaril windower"

That looks to be the method you are talking about. If you copy FFXI's install to another folder and direct the foreign POL client to it, it will rescan all the files and convert the setting on them to what are needed for the JP version. POL is the only component of the software that is majorly different between regions, and is what determines how your installed game files behave.
