  • My FFXI Glitches to JP Input sometimes

I have screenshots of this and it usually occurs when my punk ass Dell freezes or chugs. But in any case, from watching videos such as Grendal's and Avesta's, I've noticed that what pops up is strongly similar to their input on JP clients. . . Added screenshots show my folly . . . .

On one hand, I'm scared, cause it's not a normal function of the gameplay. On the other hand, I'm upset that I can't control this, nor when it pops up, I can't utilize it. If anyone has any input, it's gladdly appreciated.

Edit: WTH? When did i get an entire BRAIN of knowledge. . . hmm, Ah well, Brain of Knowledge FTW! Oh, and it matches my green text and my avatar

...That's the IME plugin in Azaril's windower.
They have a list of keyboard shortcuts that control it on their forum...
...but you need to either be running FFXI in Local Japanese or have your unicode set to Japanese.

This has happened to me as well and I do not use the windower. I think it's only happened a total of 4-5 times over my FFXI career. I thought that it came up after I pressed a certain key, but have never been able to find it. I also cannot use it, and I also use a Dell (O.o). Although, I've never had problems with my Dell "Chugging or Freezing."

It's never really bothered me because it happens so rarely, but now I'm kinda interested as to why this happens.

I've seen this once also, and I don't use windower or the like either.
The time I saw it was right after I downloaded the log parser, so I thought it might be some function of that.

Nope. Its the actual IME. The NA/EU version of the game simply has the feature disabled, and there are many cases of system lags causing it to appear. Hell, when I was playing on a 700mhz box it would come up regularly and for about a month it would not go away.

Even when it would appear though, it would never let me type in hirigana/katakana even with windows IME enabled and all that jazz. Consequently, yes, that is also what the window looks like when you use the IME plugin for windower.

          *cough* So i've been told.

My Dell Inspiron has an onboard integrated graphic's card, the 900 series, which, thankfully and obviously, is FFXI compliant.

Not Relevant, but tidbits on my weak system

I have Japanese unicode enabled, I can even type in カタカナ, so maybe that's why that bar pops up. I also use POLUtils, and unless I am mistaken, that community was trying to get the katakana feature enabled through usage of files already there.

Ah well, so at least it's not just me.
