  • lvling?

hey im gonna get the game today,
    and i was just wondering,
    is lvling easy?
    like, compared to WoW?
and how many lvls could you gain a day?

    Re: lvling?

I'll let you know right off the bat, no.

The amount of levels you could do in a day is not close to WoW. This is a game of petience, grouping, and killing endless mobs. The game's pace is 1000 percent slower than WoW's in every aspect. If you're looking for another WoW, this sure isn't it. FFXI is a very aquired taste.

as Rayquan said, the answer is no.

if you are expecting/wanting something as, or easier, than WOW to level, this is not that game. give guild wars a spin instead.

      Thanks Yyg!

        Re: lvling?

WoW is a game where everything is nearly handed to you. Quests, money, levels, information, tradeskills, etc. To know how to do anything in FFXI, you have to talk to a lot of NPCs (or visit websites for info). Leveling to 75 will take a very long time. First, the exp you rake in per monster never really gets any higher, your whole game you'll be bringing in anywhere from 10xp to 300(?)xp per kill. It lakes longer every level to get to the next one. At level 18 you have to do a quest to get your subjob, and then you have to play a job you may not even want to play for many many levels, just to make the one you do want to play better suited at higher levels. You can't even play half the game's jobs until level 30.

There is no soloing unless you're a beastmaster (you have to quest at level 30 to obtain this job also) and that's about it for soloing.

Tradeskills can seem much more difficult and complex than WoW's easy system.

The game isn't as new-player friendly as WoW is, you die a lot at the beginning, and it can be difficult to do much without other player's help beyond level 10.

Anyway, if you do still end up trying FFXI, at least play it until level 20, to give it a real try, I did when it first came out in US on PC and I just did not like it. It's a great looking game, and it can give a true sense of accomplishment, but at this point in time , I myself wouldn't bother starting new.

          Re: lvling?

compared to wow, this game is incredibly hard, and very very slow.

past level 15 or so, it becomes nearly impossible to kill any monster by yourself unless it is too weak to gain experience, and you must spend the time to organize a group of players to get together to kill them for exp.

reaching the level cap will take a very loooong time...

Some people can reach 75 in a matter of months (which requires playing endlessly every day), but if you do that, you'll end up burning out and not want to even look at the game after that.

              wise words these people speak.
              the breakdown:

If you have limited time: wow
If you do not have good patience: wow
If you like to get things done on your own: wow
If you want to feel you are productive with only 1-2 hours of gameplay a day: wow
If you want a rich story line: ffxi
If you want a great battle system: ffxi
If you like to be challanged in everything you do: ffxi
If you want more thought in your character and actions: ffxi

There's some of it, but I'm sure you get the idea by now.
Both games are good at what they are intended to do.
However, they are and always will be entirely different games.

this game is almost the diametric opposite ow wow. it's hard, it's slow, it's careful, it's rich, it's rewarding once you accomplish something, but it doesn't yeild those rewards easilly.

wow follows a theme of "instant gratification without effort" (before endgame) ffxi, however, follows a theme of "sense of accomplishment" (meaning you do something hard then you feel good about yourself)

both are very very different games...

if you have a very limited schedule, ff11 is not the game for you. A lot of the quests and experience parties take time to make. However, WoW is a game that requires less time, so it all depends on how much available time you have.

Yeah i played wow before this (think this is better). This game takes a lot of hard work and planing, wow on the other hand seems to be made for people who dont like spending time doing stuff, so for people who spend hours playing it feels less rewarding for those who have littlte time to play or dont like stressfullness in their game play at all like wow

ps: FFxi has a lot less emphasis on pvp i mean alot

I dont really agree with "If you want a great battle system: ffxi"

Sure, skillchains are hard at first, but after then it becomes more button mashing once your party does it the 2nd or 3rd time right? I honestly like WoW's battle system more because it can be a lot more heart pounding with more twitch skill, instead of your heart pounding in FFXI because you arent swinging fast enough in a dangerous situation. I just don't find FFXI battle system exciting, maybe more sluggish, slow, and sustained.

FFXI weeds out the bad players past a certain level, for the most part, so not everyone will hit 75. But in WoW, anyone can hit 60, easily, with time. Then, it changes at end game in WoW drastically because at 60 you'll need to raid with 10-40 ppl at a time in dungeons, and a lot of people wont have a clue what to do in large groups

                      Double Post Edited:
Oh, and sorry for doubling posting, but WoW's PVP instances are the best, and most fun, I've ever seen in an MMORPG. World PVP was fun back when you could (long story as to why ppl dont now). Nothing beats 10vs10 capture the flag. It never gets old to me . I never got a chance to try FFXI's PVP, but I have seen a video of its gameplay, and I didn't understand what was going on.

Um, sadly, this statement is false. A lot of the shitty people tend to join ls's that accomadate their poor standards and while it may take longer for them to reach 75, they do reach the high levels eventually, with the help from their ls's.
