Re: sketchy looking avatars
§· Have you updated DirectX?
«·» Google "directx download" for the latest version.
§· Are you playing on the monitor from your grandfather's AppleIIc?
«·» Check the specs on your monitor. Things like Refresh rate, Contrast Ratio, and Response Time all play a part in how well your graphics look.
·» Refresh Rate = Higher the number, the better. Shoot for 60mhz minimum.
·» Contrast Ratio = Lower the "xxx:1", the better. I've played on 900:1 and 500:1 and
500:1 looks alot better.
·» Response Time = Lower the number, the better. I'm not sure exactly about anything
higher than 16ms Response Time, but 16ms wasn'e bad when I used it.
§· Are you using the most updated GPU Drivers for your system?
«·» Don't use an old driver unless everything's messing up. Also, don't use a Beta or Test version of your driver either.
§· Are you using the latest drivers for your Sound Card?
«·» Check those while you're at it. Sometimes they mess stuff up, too.Last edited by PotentPotables; 03-13-2006, 08:53 PM.

Re: sketchy looking avatars
ok well my refresh rate is 60hertz and my ratio is 500:1 and i dont know about the response time...but i also have my card overclocked at its "detected optimal frequencies" which are:
core clock frequency : 296 MHz
memory clock frequency: 417 MHz
so yea ill turn it off and see what happends but if its the same then i guess i need more help. all my drivers are up to date as far as i know, my DirectX is 9.0c (or the newest one) i dont know if i said it before but im on a intel pentium 4 processor running at 2.40GHz. thanks for any help

Re: sketchy looking avatars
Its a driver problem most likely, I had this same issue. There are a list of drivers for compatibilty with FFXI on www.playonline.com.
I started using the Xtreme-G drivers a while ago and have had no problems since using those with FFXI.
